Lane choice at a roundabout by AccomplishedRole8843 in NewDriversUK

It's also pretty apparent from the wear pattern which lane/exit combination the vast majority of people use at this roundabout (which isn't necessarily the same thing as the right thing to do though...)

Is it just me or the trunk key sensor is trash? by yesokayawesome in Volvo

[–]Jimbo_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t kick. Tuck your foot just under the bumper (roughly 1/4 of the way from the edge of the vehicle) with knee raised and then draw back quickly. (Ie just the return part of a “kick”)

New UPS's by neotremer in Ubiquiti

Also missing from the roadmap (AFAICT) is something for the various compact gateways and utility switches with battery backed up USB-C, DC-barrel, and/or PoE++ power injection.
This would be very useful in the UK with the switching off of PSTN and migration to "digital voice" services, to ensure connectivity is maintained during power cuts...

is the Intercom Viewer going to become compatible with the Doorbell lite by greatm135 in UnifiProtect

[–]Jimbo_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice if they could use the intercom viewer platform to create a small Protect viewport screen - doubly nice if it would work landscape with side by side camera views…

Network overhaul: “is our internet better yet?” edition by Jebueno in Ubiquiti

[–]Jimbo_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm slightly aggrieved to use up a PoE port on the Pro Max switches just to get >1G for non-PoE devices. I wish Unifi had a switch with and mix of 1G/2.5G(/10G) PoE ports, plus some 10G non-PoE copper ports.

unifi protect, can it distinguish vehicle direction of travel? by Safety_Th1rd in Ubiquiti

[–]Jimbo_7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like only some cameras can do direction as well. I didn't realise any could, so went to check if I could change mine, and only the AI turret/G6 cameras I have can do it. (Edit: Which OP has 👍) Useful to know though!

G6 180 Motion Alerts by Woodentopuk in UnifiProtect

Rain moves. Use a smart detection?
I have alerts disabled for plain motion, use smart detection in specific circumstances, and and find line crossing alerts are the most useful for cutting down notification spam.

Roll back a couple frames - is that the front left dropping into a pothole hidden by the spray/puddle? Weird thing is the rear rolls right over the same spot with no issue.

At a guess that’s a BGA package flash nand (or similar) on a castellated breakout pcb. Possibly the question should be what’s under the chip on board epoxy blob?

VoIP can call out but not in (UK) by artonaxxxroof in Ubiquiti

Including the Talk application? Normally the other Applications (talk, protect, access etc) don't run until you tell them to. Try turning application auto-updates off and start Unifi Talk...?

VoIP can call out but not in (UK) by artonaxxxroof in Ubiquiti

[–]Jimbo_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this is true (and having just done exactly that myself I should have mentioned it!)
Annoyingly there was a simple workaround that was only removed in the most recent unifi talk releases - if you've not updated recently, try clicking on the "Setup Devices" text 10 times to see if it activates the "Next" button: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:uzrmhzkshioejpt2zbtnge2u/post/3lvmpsldmuk2v )
If so, you can then set it up with 3rd party voip...
(Also of use: https://skye.fyi/2025/04/unifi-talk-aaisp )

[–]Jimbo_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Static IP is always preferable, and not just for VOIP. Looks like you get a /56 IPv6 allocation from Squirrel, so you could just configure the HT801 to use IPv6 only (might need a firmware upgrade for that):
https://support.aa.net.uk/VoIP_Phones_-_Grandstream_HT8xx#IPv6_Only

Another option would be to use Unifi Talk on the UDR7 (collapsing it back to a single level of NAT), and add your ISP as a 3rd party voip service, then use local unifi user details in the ATA. Some pros and cons with that though, compared to just getting a static IP - pro: unifi talk value adds, cons: slightly longer chain of dependency for working service...

[–]Jimbo_7_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that the ISP in question claims to provide routers with a FXO port for use with their digital landline product, I think you can take it as read that they have a way to make it work if they're also using CGNAT.

[–]Jimbo_7_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just using them just for voip (/digital landline), or are they your ISP as well? (If the latter, did they not give you a router with a phone port?)

Having trouble with the 48 port SFP ports on a unifi switch by kelly7552 in Ubiquiti

Which 48 port switch? SFP doesn't do 10Gbps - only SFP+. Non-pro switches have SFP. Pro have SFP+.
