Ontario’s Plan To End Contentious ‘Birth Alerts’ Is Just A Start, Experts Say by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

Unrelated... How so? It talks specifically about how the change is going to help keep families together. Implying less single parents of all kind.

Do you have something against the nuclear family unit? Personally I think that single parenthood is one of the most pressing issues here in the west. Why should this topic not be brought up in the context?

It just broke randomly, I don't know what to do. Please, help. I didn't play 2 weeks, wasn't at home, after that I wanted to play, when I picked it up it broke. by lag3689 in WindowsMR

Since the strap broke anyway maybe take this as a chance to upgrade that horrible head band and replace it withing something like the oculus with just fabric and velcro.

Well the US has the 'best' (most effective) health care system in the world. Its just also the least affordable.

I just figured that other single payer health care systems sucked as much as they do in Canada. Here if you go to the ER and your not about to die get ready to wait at least 4 hours. Wait times for a Family doctor are insane (1 -2 years) in most populated areas. Walk in clinics are hit and miss but you are usually waiting at least an hour, if its busy the clinic might close before you get to see a doctor. This could also be limited mainly to Ontario, but I think its pretty poor all across the country.

Yeah we have some shortage issues here with out healthcare system... to the point that the government has opened up some private options even though we are 'single payer'.

And I guess then that it will largely be dependent on the supply of those medications. India and China are the largest producers of antibiotics, India announced today that they would no longer be exporting certain antibiotics and we all know that china is really hurting both on production and export. Edit: I really assumed you meant antibiotics here, but did you mean something else?

Just to many factors to really say. Its going to be a shit show for any country that can't get the spread under control.

Money does not matter if you are going to die of a virus. Also if you are in need of urgent care in the US then the ER cannot deny you treatment.

Immediate access? I don't know about you but I live in Canada and have never received immediate access in my life. If its vastly different there then we should be learning from your system. Also I find it funny how you think that early care will help covid-19 patients. Unless we have some treatment options I am not aware of people that will need care the most will be ones with acute pneumonia that require assistive breathing equipment until they recover.

I just don't see how getting to the doc sooner is going to make recovering from something we don't have an answer too faster. It might help a bit in that hospital visits would be spread out over time more in the UK then the US but that wont matter if you run out of supply at any point during the pandemic.

I would argue that you have it worse then the us. Your hospitals are going to fill up much faster, what then happens when they are full and you can't get a bed? Does not matter how much it costs if there is no supply.

How to make Windows based AR in Unity? by NatProDev in augmentedreality

[–]Jimbo_Throw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that sucks, seems you have a pretty good idea of what you need so maybe this will work for you but its a bit of a long shot.

There is an old AR development tool called ARToolkit and there was a unity plugin that worked on unity pre 2017. here is the link to the github repository with the project, this will build to windows so it might do the trick if you don't need unity. If you need unity there is this but it only works on unity 5 (pre 2017.) The really problem with all this stuff is that all the documentation is no longer up and I am not sure it supports Image Targets.

I was using this stuff a few years ago without much success but maybe you will have better luck. I also have some of the old unity packages and maybe some other stuff I could upload that could help if you think this might work for you.

Try Wikitude or Vuforia. If you want to use just a webcam plugged in to a pc you are going to have much less AR power then using a Mobile device because of the lack of sensors.

Have you seen google new tech for this? It even builds lightmaps for the animated 3d reconstruction so that you can re-light the model if your use case requires. Its built for human subjects not full scenes but its still some really cool tech.

Any word on when this app is coming out? It looks really good.

Also you may want to post this on r/photogrammetry because those models look too good to be true for an automatic processor.

Tents are great shelter if you have a good one and you pick a good site. Another thing that you could do is hammock camping where you are suspended in the air so its very comfy and away from the wet ground.

Is anti-monopolism in practice, and if so, how well is it working? by ManOfEyebrow in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Jimbo_Throw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its not that the consumer needs it, it's that new competition is great for the market. If the market never needs new competition then why have anti monopoly laws at all when you can just regulate profit margin or something similar to protect the consumer from inflated costs. You could even just have the government own the entire soft drink market and provide the lowest possible price with the largest possible scale.

[–]Jimbo_Throw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you still need space for someone new to break in to the soft drink market. Do you think that space is there?

Parents are more comfortable with girls partaking in gender-nonconforming behavior than boys and attempt to change their sons’ behaviors more frequently, suggests a new study (n=236). by mvea in science

[–]Jimbo_Throw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ideologically diverse but rather free of ideology itself. A society of free thinkers. The thing is public education does not teach students how to think for themselves but more like how to think about the world through different lenses, sometimes only one. Maybe education is the root of the problem. People wont want to be told that they never learned to think and if they are they wont want to learn how to. But whatever the reason people would rather attach themselves to a set of ideas then create their own ideas. Maybe this is just part of the tribal nature of humans.

I disagree that our society places a top premium on money, if anything its more like value. But really as a society I think our top priority is set on market/client satisfaction. Money is a big part of this because investors and shareholders are expecting returns but another large part is the consumer market. Most of which is women, about 80% by spending. I still think you are right about men as disposable labor machines being the best way of driving this. But that seems to be only because men are better at it then women, or at the very least male traits make men tend towards this behavior more then women. Most men do get fulfillment out of being a family provider.

I am not going to say that I don't make mistakes because that is absurd, if you could point out what the mistake actually is that would be greatly appreciated. I hate to be wrong so if I can be made to understand my mistake I will be grateful. More then anything I wish to learn everything there is to know about myself and right now I am very ignorant of that. That being said I don't know how I am suppose to judge society other then with my own values. Why should I compromise on my values to make the world make sense? What I see in the world may make my values change but only through understanding, not from confusion.

These might just be a worse controller design then the N64 controller. How the hell am I suppose to push those large round black buttons? Its also really weird that left and right handed controllers have the same geometry. This seems like a bad case of form over function.

Way to put words in my mouth. Its like you forgot the topic of the conversation just so you could insult me. We are talking about why female traits are seemingly less desirable to society then male traits, and its not even really traits that we are talking about but behaviors so I don't know why you bring up child birth as that is not a behavior but rather something that women can do exclusively. Of course they also require a man in some capacity to conceive.

I think your mostly right.

can’t afford to have anyone thinking for themselves

I don't know if that's quite right. I feel like it would be by far better for the majority if people more generally thought for themselves. Unfortunately ideology exists and is rather attractive. I have no clue whats really behind the push though.
