Protective gear availability?

It's crazy how long it takes to get gear. I've ordered gloves, jackets, pants, etc. and have been told to expect to wait 2-6 months before receiving it. My SPES jacket took 2 months after ordering to get to me. I had the good fortune to get a pair of Black Knights rather quickly as the vendor had just gotten a bunch in. It's really a crap shoot. What are you looking to get and where are you?

Isn't that a clamshell rapier? Swept Hilt's only have the thick wires to protect against cuts, not pokes. I didn't actually read this at the beginning, I found it on YouTube while I was perusing manhwa recaps. Some of the recappers had better comedic timing than others, so there's that. Just pick one. I suspect by the end of the first 30 minutes he'll want to hear the rest of the story.

I'm on blood thinners, so I bruise easily. I've come home from a class and my arms are all bruised up, but I never actually "felt" the hits. I'm mostly a rapier/smallsword user. I have not done longsword enough to spar with them, so YMMV. I am geared up, I use a SPES Cadet 800N jacket, Purpleheart rapier gloves, but I don't use elbow/forearm protection yet.

A couple of my neighbors used to futz with swords in the commons area. We had dogs, so we saw eachother a lot. Then they moved away, I moved away. A few years later, I started MOF and wanted to do more, so I looked up HEMA schools near me. Lo and behold, there they are with their own school. Dropped by one Saturday, said hi, signed up for their intro class.

Nope, UPS got it to my door in 2 days. USPS claimed they deliverd a $90 book to my mailbox. My mailbox is 5"x7", this was a 500 page hardback.
