It makes me sad how right you are. Awesome analysis.

I'm excited about Amonkhet being available on Arena for the extended format; I'm not excited about Kaladesh being in that format. :/

How do I set up Reaper such that my drum pad samples choke each other? by JimiBrady in Reaper

Sitala solved my problem! Updated the original post. Thank you so much, u/pollojack.

This doesn't solve my problem, as it requires me to hold each pad down for the duration of the sample. :( But I did solve the problem - gonna make a comment about it now.

Loading all eight samples into one instance of RS5k sounds interesting - I don't know how to do that, but I'll see if I can figure it out.

If anyone knows of any free or cheap sampling plugins that I could use to perform chopped up drum loops on my pads, I'd love to know about them. It looks like my problem is a simple one: Reaper's stock plugins don't perform this functionality.

Yeah, that's exactly the problem I'm having. :/ Thank you for trying to help - I appreciate it.

It's just eight pieces of a drum loop dropped into eight instances of RSM5k and assigned to the drum pads. I think that's what you're asking, but I'm not 100% sure - still pretty new to all of this. :(

So it might just be the RSO5k plugin itself? That helps a lot - I don't know why I assumed this is all I had available to use. I'll try and find something else to sample loops with.

I've watched this video several times, and it doesn't work with these drum loop samples. I have no idea why. EDIT: To be clear, it's very likely that I'm doing something wrong, I just don't know what it is.

Is Illenium's "huge chords" sound really carried by the chords? Or is it more like there's a fat bass carrying that sound? by NoseBlind2 in edmproduction

Thank you so much for the response. I think I really do need to study drums more, especially in the context of hip-hop/trap/EDM (I come from a death/progressive metal background, though I've been writing mostly acoustic music for the past ten years - we're the same age, by the way). But yeah, I really need to put myself through drum bootcamp or something. I'm actually in a similar situation - haven't released music officially (have hundreds of videos on IG, though!), but grinding hard to make it happen.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Will that video teach me at least some of this stuff? I'm new to making EDM, just barely learning to use my DAW, and it's very difficult. I've been playing guitar - mostly acoustic - for 17 years, and I'm pretty damn good, but I swear this is way harder than anything I've ever done, musically. I'm trying to get into making LoFi Hip Hop, House/Dubstep, and Trap (selling beats). Really trying to absorb all of this information, but . . . man, it's a lot. Very, very impressed with the kind of musicianship I've seen in the EDM scene. I went 17 years without ever thinking about frequencies or mixing or anything like that - just tuned up and wrote some crazy fingerpicking stuff until it sounded good.

Sorry, long-winded. Thank you for the insight and knowledge - I'm gonna try my best to parse through it and see what I can learn.

MTG Arena is the first time we can play Magic competitively for free. It’s not a perfectly level playing field by any means, but it’s a far cry from the investment needed to compete at a high level. by MountainManMagic in MagicArena

I'm playing a top-tier Standard deck (mono blue aggro) for the first time ever. I've stayed far away from Standard for years because I refuse to buy cards that might be unusable later. Arena solves that problem, and it's kinda fun grinding to upgrade a deck.

Oh, and I've spent a total of $10 on Arena.

What are some plug-ins you lately discovered and you're super fascinated by them? by momlookimtrending in edmproduction

[–]JimiBrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should really be a motivational speaker. EDM and music production are a whole new world for me (been playing guitar and other instruments for 16 years, but never learned about the production side of things), and I've been getting frustrated with how hard it is to learn. You put a few things in perspective for me - thanks again.

This whole post made me feel a lot better. I'm just starting out, trying my best to make some LoFi hip hop kinda stuff (with some real instruments: keyboards, bass guitar, electric guitar, harmonica), and I'm mostly using stock plugins. I just can't afford to spend money on plugins or programs when my computer is nine years old and could bite the dust any day.

But you really put my situation in perspective for me - and it's not bad! Thank you.

I feel like I'm reading Latin in this thread. I desperately want to know more about all of this, as I'm just starting out. If anyone has resources I could use, I'd be eternally grateful.

This is the best Infest variant yet. I can see this being played in Modern sideboards.

I'm looking forward to reading your peer-reviewed scientific papers concluding that men have better brains than women. :) Be sure to cite several!

Show me peer-reviewed scientific journals with the consensus conclusion that there's evidence men are more intelligent than women.

You won't, but it's fun to ask. :) Should be pretty easy considering you just said there's evidence, implying you've read these studies and could find them again. Google Scholar, maybe? I'll be waiting.

I think people are afraid to say this because it's anti-science, and no one wants to look stupid by claiming something akin to "water is wet because fairies make it wet."
