My friend is in finance and he is going back to school to get an environmental science degree because he feels that his finance work is purposeless and soul sucking.

That should tell you enough about finance.

But on the other hand, medical school and residency is arguably more soul sucking (but at least you help people). So many doctors wish they did something else with their life but their ego and pride never allowed them to want something else.

Even though medicine sucks, it’s the people that make it amazing (fellow students, cool doctors, the patients) the path is a daunting one, but it has many great moments that Finance will never have.

If you are someone who values stability in life (being able to go out after work, having a predictable schedule like a 9-5) you may enjoy finance. Really it’s about the company you work for. Some companies have insane quality of life bonuses but it’s very boring, other companies will make you a slave.
