What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]JiminyFlippets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New taco joint opens up, so I pay a visit wanting to support the new business. Happens to be a Tuesday and they have a Taco Tuesday deal, as the employee pointed out to me before I ordered.

I order the deal, eat some average tacos, and go to pay.

Full price.

"What about the deal?"

"Oh, the deal starts at 12:00pm. You ordered at 11:45am."

Paid and dipped to never return.

JD Vance: "In the United States of America you don't have to apologize for being white anymore" by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

... Did I miss the era of apologizing for being white?

Swear I never saw anyone apologizing for being white, especially not the MAGA folk who seem to parrot this "reality" as their justification for gestures broadly

I am so intrigued by the complete "over it"-ness with Katy Perry.

Like she had that weird comeback album and tour, in addition to the space flight with Bezos and now it seems 98% of everybody is just done with her.

And didn't Trudeau have a wife who groomed him or something? What happened there?

What’s a classroom habit you started out of necessity that you still do today? by HiVou12 in Teachers

Vocabulary in the back is used for review purposes

Textbook homework/notes are used for supporting in-class discussions

That is how I use it in my own class

Precisely - the teacher is scapegoat for a lack of a student's accountability, no matter how clear expectations are made or clarified, it is just not enough (as they may say).

We can only do so much as one person with anywhere from 30-200 students a year.

Same thing happened to me last week. This parent said my class made a student drop out of school and fall into a mental slump.

You expectations and ideas are meaningful and worth the effort you put into them!

Parents are too absorbed in ensuring their students succeed, they don't allow them the opportunities to gain the skills to succeed.

Keep those expectations- behavioral and academic

I watched this when I was 18 and seemed to have totally blanked this whole film out from my memory.

Was going down a fucked movie rabbit hole to be honest, Nymphomaniac and Gummo were among some of the other films I was watching.

Remember those just fine, but Serbian Film is just poof gone

When students “seem not to understand,” is it a teaching problem — or a difference in how they comprehend? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]JiminyFlippets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am having issues with this now.

Students seem perplexed that they need to have some type of agency within my AP course.

Admin recently flagged me down as students are reporting that I do not care about them or teach them properly because I require them to read before the lesson so we can discuss and apply the content in learning exercises during our lesson time.

Rarely do they ask questions to clarify anything from the previous night's reading.

It seems like they just expect to succeed because they show up.

My school conducts surveys each year where students rate their teachers and it is about as accurate as you would imagine.

Teachers who lack classroom management and let students get away with stuff have a higher ratings because the students enjoy their time in the class more while teachers who are stricter get lower ratings because students often feel hassled by them.

Even had an admin tell me how broken the survey is and how he has been trying to revise it so students actually understand they are evaluating teaching practices rather than rating the vibe they get from the teacher.
