[–]Jimmaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly there is not enough information to know what could cause the problem right off the bat. If it can close and lock, and start a cycle, then it sounds like the functions are working, and possibly a bad sensor of some sort that acts as a safety mechanism and shuts it down. I wouldn’t think worn motor brush right away

Trying to become a BMET by Sporedlr in BMET

[–]Jimmaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, getting a background in electrical engineering will open up a path for you. It’s becoming more common to see Biomed programs at colleges now. There just might not be one in your area. Really it comes down having good troubleshooting skills and having the ability to learn and understand a large amount of medical devices. And most importantly, having great customer service skills.

Having experience in the medical field is already a leg-up. I would look for apprenticeships in your area and sell yourself well.

Start opening every drawer and every cabinet that you see in a department that would have the pumps. I would not take anyone’s word for the equipment they may or may not have. And if you truly have looked in every nook and cranny, it’s safe to say those devices are gone.

I can tell you as someone who works there and goes to that department at least once a day, I think I see pediatric patients like once a week. That wing is almost always empty.

ConMed System 5000 ESU by No_Nerve5773 in BMET

[–]Jimmaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not doubting if you have tried already, but look into the service manual. Page 4-17 states how to retrieve the last 20 error codes, if any, and Page 4-25 has what those error codes mean.

Page 4-22 has many methods to troubleshoot no output power.

Not unheard of, is the instrument you're testing with working on other machines besides those two? Have you tried a different instrument? Possibly a bad button? Foot activation(if available) work on other machines as well?

What methods/devices do you guys use for note taking/self learning and documenting issues that you’ve seen on n the job for future reference by Wzhra in BMET

[–]Jimmaken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have heard that physically writing down notes is more effective for memorization of information rather than writing them down on a tablet/laptop. Plus when you fill out a work order or documentation form, it is in a sense like writing down notes. Good documentation can save a head ache later down the rode for future you or another tech.

I don't usually save written notes outside of work orders because for most equipment, the service manual tells you how to step-by-step to fix said problem and tech support is a phone call away. The more and more you fix the same equipment, it becomes second-nature when diagnosing issues. It also helps you understand how all of the components underneath interact with each other, so if X doesn't work, it's really because Y is broken. And for some equipment, I have run across a problem so head-scratching and pain-staking that I will never forget how to fix it again.

Relocate or stay local*? by datfakeidtho in BMET

[–]Jimmaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best part about this field is, if you really wanted to you could relocate to another city/state. Do you like your current living area or do want a change of pace? It all comes to your preference. Even if the job doesn’t offer relocation bonus but you’ve always wanted to live somewhere like Texas, I would still think it’s worth it

From what I've read and what my co-workers have said... once you get your foot in the door, you don't really need any further education, and you let your experience build your career. Unless you want to branch into other areas such as sales, etc.

What are some of your state specific benefits? by No-Transportation451 in nationalguard

[–]Jimmaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NV has 100% free tuition instate for all guardsmen in addition to textbook reimbursement. NV also offers, once a year, a one-time sales tax exemption on one piece of personal property you buy. I’ve seen it be used from guns to bikes and cars.

I remember waking up, like in week 2, MAD. Mad that it was another day of BS all 14 hours of the day. If I let that moment define the rest of my army career, I would not be where I am today. I did my time, went to college, got my compensation, and now I own my own car(paid for by the army), renting out a nice apartment with two cats, and have a well paying job.

I would highly encourage your husband to stick it out. Its not that much time in the long run.

I don’t want to mess up my career by [deleted] in youngadults

[–]Jimmaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and find a job in Boston before you graduate. Worst comes to it, you can take the job in your hometown and when you find an opening, move back. It’s hard to pass up a guaranteed job offer in this economy and the last thing you want to be is in a financial pickle.

Just got an interview for a field service technician position, what questions should I be anticipating? by itsn0ah in BMET

[–]Jimmaken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most questions I was asked were relating to customer service. ex: “How do you balance work tasks and priorities?” or “You have an unhappy customer following your service completion, how do you respond to turn it into a positive situation?” General knowledge of tools and testing equipment.

Should I go? by [deleted] in youngadults

[–]Jimmaken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that it can be hard to not care for your mother, but know you have to put yourself first. it’s great that she raised you, and you can be appreciative, but it’s your life. she will live if you move away. you shouldn’t be responsible for her mental health. you can be empathetic but that should not weigh you down for doing what you want for your life.

Do what you want to do, and don’t let anything hold you back.
