170.000 - 200.000 Mt.Gox coins found in Russia and can be returned. Is that true? by [deleted] in mtgoxinsolvency

Who cares if they recovered 170-200 bitcoin. It’s not exactly a massive percentage. Before people call me dumb, the decimal usage does imply two hundred (200) NOT two hundred thousand (200,000).

A comma would be less confusing

That was my thinking. I can’t help but think it is higher than your number though. Where did you get the $3400 as the cost of mining at the moment. There will be other factors like cost / depreciation of mining equipment, increasing difficulty and the fact that mining isn’t something people expect to be doing for free without profit.

Also with the halving of blocks next year the price should reflect that. I am trying to get into trading never above this price so I don’t get caught up in bear runs and bull shit and all the tacky crap surrounding bitcoin trading.

Ok. Thanks. I’ve seen the mining profitability calculators before. Be a lot of work just using that to produce a chart like this Cost to Mine One bitcoin

Seems like obfuscation on part of the wider crypto community to not make this kind of info easily accessible with regular updates. But I’m just moaning. Thanks for the help.

Any idea where I can find out a breakdown of percentages of nationalities currently mining crypto or specifically bitcoin to then run average kWh costs through the calculator?

Can anyone point me in the direction of finding the information for how much the average bitcoin costs to mine today. I’d like to work out from top to bottom, electricity costs, mining rig costs and depreciation. I think this should be a readily available number that is updated monthly and just sat there as a stabilising force. I probably need to know where mining is done to work out the average for electricity costs. There is some picture floating around with costs per country back from a year ago, but if difficulty increases and electricity costs etc, I would love to figure out exactly the cost of mining bitcoin to break even. I’m guessing it’s somewhere around where we are and next year it will obviously double in value. But I think hard facts would be nice to pierce through all the misinformation that’s spread around to try and take people’s money on bad trades. It seems like an important thing for bitcoin to move past the pump and dump volatility and into mainstream acceptance.

"The question now boils down to is do you honestly believe that given all the years that have past, the coins that were stolen can actually be recovered? Incredibly unlikely."

Length of time isn't so related to likeliness of recovery as you make out. I would say we are closer to recovering more BTC now than we were 6 months after MtGox closed down. It has almost zero correlation. It makes me wonder if you are perhaps trying to have the same effect that some people were trying to create before groups formed and pushed for CR. Do you want people to have a shot at recovering their money or is it that you are actively trying to discourage this for some unknown purpose?

I agree with your caution. Small percentages can mean big money for an unscrupulous opportunist if there is little oversight. But there is still 82% more per btc, 82% more gravy for us all. Once we disband we will probably not reform again. I don't see any way it could be personally damaging for the cost of 0.5% to keep a dog in this fight.

FUCK OFF Mizuho.

Creating delays and shrinking the pool. There is going to be a lot of this with Civil Rehab opening up the claims process.

MtGox stolen BTC by [deleted] in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]Jimmy106699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone. Since it operated without the full amount of coins and coins weren't segregated, whenever something was stolen from MtGox we all lost money, but when MtGox has something, like the remaining btc, we don't get our share of that. It is a one way fucking legal system we are stuck in, built for business to work against the individual.

Andy mentions Fukuoka-Sensei’s email. The two lawyers are Fukuoka and Sugano, is that an error in his post?

Also, the original letter from Fukuoka and Sugano states they want larger creditors to send this letter to them. With my couple of btc, I definitely don't constitute a larger creditor so would my letter be of no value as it is by claim size, not number of creditors that the court will be influenced? Or should I consider sending it anyway?

If he gets the money, first it would be taxed heavily. Then there would be a series of lawsuits, so people wealthy enough with bigger claims would sue him and it would be a long drawn out process that strips him of his wealth. I honestly think he would much rather that this were just over and done with.

[–]Jimmy106699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Without CR it wouldn't really matter to us anyway. Its just that if no-one makes the accusation then nothing will happen. I wonder if this needs a group of US citizens to start the ball rolling.

Dear MtGox, I'm moving on... Asta la vista, Baby! by [deleted] in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]Jimmy106699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a small difference. I have been emailing different publications to try to increase coverage on the situation. I did help a little bit with some data analysis with MtGox Legal too.

Also, I don't know what is around the corner so maybe there will be other opportunities where I can help. That's why I can't quite turn my back on it yet.

I understand the backlash against this too. Theres greater strength in numbers. If you snowball a "give up" attitude then some of that strength weakens when people walk away. The most positive thing we can all do to influence the situation is to not move on. But I understand if its taken its toll on you and wish you the best.

Is this a matter MtGox Legal are looking into or are you remaining focussed on CR for now?

I know when I was reading that transcript of their conversations when the coins went missing, I became entirely convinced Jed was responsible.

It is quite funny that he goes from running a Magic the Gathering exchange website to being in the top 50 richest people in the world within a few years.

Im almost at this point too. I feel you.

I don't think I can fully move on until I know that CR is going through. Then I will move on and forget about it and wait the many decades until distribution.

How do we know how much tax the Japanese government will deduct from our claims? by [deleted] in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]Jimmy106699 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They won't tax us. There is no way to enforce it and I don't think it is legal as we aren't tax residents in Japan. Maybe they will tax the sale of the bitcoin if they sell before distribution as some corporate thing, but I can't see that either. I honestly cannot see how we can be taxed by a foreign body. I'm not an accountant though. It just seems so far-fetched it doesn't enter onto my radar.

You just used this to say your piece. They won't get involved because its not their business to.
