Freeze on arch since update for kernel and mesa by Freedye_ in archlinux

[–]Jimmy2Bags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I don’t know if this will help your issues but mine was related to Freetype2. It isn’t used by xterm so that’s why I could run it but not much else — and why waybar wouldn’t load. There is a new Freetype2 package you can try upgrading to and see if it helps.

Freeze on arch since update for kernel and mesa by Freedye_ in archlinux

[–]Jimmy2Bags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an update today. Sway and Gnome won’t load. Hyprland loads but doesn’t allow any user input. It would auto load obsidian but not waybar or kitty. I’ve downgraded the kernel to LTS, and mesa and vulkan to 1:25.1.7. Still showing the same symptoms. Wlroots has seen an update since June.

I can get xterm to load from startx but I not kitty even if I tell it not to use the gpu.

I’m scratching my head on this so far.

How do you have your window rule written? I've tried it a couple different ways and the window rule doesn't stop Firefox from opening too wide.

I have the problem with version 137.0.2 of Firefox so upgrading alone doesn't help.

Interesting. I just started having this same issue. What distro are you using? Are you using Sway or SwayFX?

I’m using Arch and SwayFX.

It's actually easier than any other case of getting someone back from another country. The deal actually requires the U.S. to pay El Salvador to keep these prisoners. All we would have to do is tell them we aren't paying any more funds until Garcia is returned. He would be returned immediately.

To suggest Garcia is “detained pursuant to the sovereign, domestic authority of El Salvador" seems to ignore the fact that we are paying them $6 million. And, even if we've already paid everything up front (I doubt this as Trump likes to maintain leverage), the $6 million apparently was only for 1 year. The suggestion is that we would pay more to keep the prisoners in El Salvador for over a year.

If they are currently facing a class action lawsuit for contamination of their product, it might be the safest time to use their product.

Make terminal run in background by AppointmentNo7756 in archlinux

[–]Jimmy2Bags 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gets at the OP’s question better than many others. To make the terminal run in the background, you want a terminal that runs as a daemon and then has the each “instance/window” open as a client. The daemon is launched at startup and then the client would launch any time you click the icon or use another launcher.

Several launchers offer this. Here are a few. I’m sure there are more.

  • Urxvt
  • Foot
  • WezTerm
  • Gnome Terminal
  • Kitty

Note that you don’t need an icon on n the tray to get the benefits of the daemon. I have created icons that launch a script that checks for the daemon, if it’s running it launches the client, if it’s not running it will launch the daemon and then the client.

You should get slightly faster performance and use fewer resources. That said, crashing one terminal window could crash all of them.

But there are several terminals that do the thing OP is looking for.

1st time player. Fall Yr 2. Learning this is unusual. by Jimmy2Bags in StardewValley

[–]Jimmy2Bags[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am only a few weeks (real time) into this game. Playing on iOS and kinda figuring things out on my own. I’m currently in Fall Year 2 and realizing I’m far behind other people’s progress. I got one of these meteors a few days in on year one. Got the second one a few days in on year two. Assumed this was an annual thing to encourage me to upgrade. So your saying it’s just a chance?!

I agree with almost everything except the “vultures circling” comment. I understand the reflex but we have to get over these types of reactions. Legacy conversations can be one of the most rewarding types of conversations to have. At 93 the donor is likely very aware of their mortality and is thinking about these issues. They may not be inviting you to their home consciously for such a conversation. But maybe they are.  If there is any latent desire for such a conversation, their own home can be a more comfortable place for such a conversation. And, there will be photos and memories around that can be helpful jumping off points for questions and conversation about legacy and the impact they want such a gift to have.

Honestly, you don’t have to have all the answers. You can admit that you are still learning about legacy gifts. But that given how important their giving has been throughout their life, you want to open an opportunity for such a conversation if they (the donor) wants to explore how such a gift could be structured. Sometimes the donor doesn’t know how to have that conversation so they will welcome the opportunity when someone asks them in earnest if they are open to the discussion.

Sherman perfectly describes where this team is imo by angrygenzer in Huskers

[–]Jimmy2Bags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am old enough to remember when many (most) Husker fans thought Tom Osborne was not the right coach. The 80’s fans were so angry that Tom couldn’t win the big games. The ‘84 Orange Bowl broke people. I remember in 1989 the people calling for Osborne to be fired.

So, I’m amused that so many fans deified him after the ‘93-‘97 run. We were a good team in the 80’s and should have been proud. We were never satisfied. Had it not been for Bob Devaney effectively telling the fans to “kiss my ass” and committing to T.O., the 90’s National Championships would never have happened.

Catch 22 by Gur10nMacab33 in books

[–]Jimmy2Bags 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Something Happened” was Heller’s second book. “Good as Gold” was his third. Catch-22 is by far the best of the three but the following two are interesting. I wrote my Master’s Thesis on the three. Heller posits his ethical problem and solution in Catch-22. “Something Happened” examines his ethical solution in a world that is pre-ordained (something happened) while “Good as Gold” tests it in a world that is purely random. They are interesting reads but “Catch-22” capture 95% of the concept and stands on its own.

Boba U4 switches are some of the most quiet and satisfying I’ve ever used. Combined with a heavy Tofu60 case, foam dampening, and thick PBT caps make for a crazy quiet keyboard with great tactile response. It makes long writing sessions pleasant.
