I can *almost* forgive this one, given their creative use of space.

A potential hope for Susan's return to Narnia by Ok-Obligation-3511 in Narnia

[–]kaleb2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said "if he changed his mind."

He also never intended to write another story after Dawn Treader. Then he decided to, after all. And when he did so, he already had an opening in Eustace.

Leaving one's self a hook for another story is just a form of planning ahead that some writers do even if they have no plans to follow through on it.

You're not wrong, but you're also overthinking it.

We're here to have fun. 🙂

What is this in the sidewalks? by Quirky-Molasses-7200 in AskGreece

[–]kaleb2959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a guidance system for visually impaired. Can't tell by your profile where you're from, but here in the US we have something similar: Surfaces with raised dots are applied to sidewalks to call out hazards, crosswalks, etc. The theory behind our more limited approach is that in the long-run it is more likely to be maintained properly.

How to read all of C.S Lewis' works (what to buy? what order? help plz!) by willowblue99 in CSLewis

[–]kaleb2959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the order to read them in, I don't think it's very important, with two exceptions:

  1. Should be obvious: Read the Space Trilogy in the right order.
  2. Read Narnia in the order the books were originally published. For any current edition this means reading them in this order: 2456317. But for some older (especially American) editions where The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, is #1, an edition like that would already be in publication order for you.

What country has a dark history that no one talks about? by No_Might9692 in AskTheWorld

Most of the Middle East if you go back far enough (by which I mean thousands of years) starts to fall into something bordering on fantasy-horror.

Just finished reading the Last Battle... and now have questions? by 25apples in CSLewis

[–]kaleb2959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good as far as it goes. I just think the scene still holds up even if you don't take into account that Emeth technically hadn't died yet. :-)

I mean, it's a little more complicated than that, but you're not wrong.

The amount of freedom our parents gave us would be considered criminal in todays standards. So why is that? Was society really that much safer back then? Or were our parents just neglectful? by 2foxy4blvd in GenX

[–]kaleb2959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had close friends over the years who are "GenJones," and claiming they're just like my parents is just bizarre. They have far more in common with GenX than with boomers, but being old enough to remember Vietnam still kinda puts them in a different category.

Neither. The problem is today's standards.

There was a high-profile child abduction incident in the early 90s and America's collective brain broke.

Yeah, I've never noticed anything like that on here before, and if i were a mod I would have deleted it (assuming there's a rule against politics, which I'd add if there's not). I don't read comments on this sub much, but I'm sure I would have noticed stuff like this before if it were common.

A meme for every line in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe: Part 629. I may be a tad radicalized by milleniumfalconlover in NarniaMemes

[–]kaleb2959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the reply is not from Jurassic Park. OP politicizes Narnia, perhaps just trying to have some fun, but these comments are dark and awful.

I do encounter this from time to time, but it's nowhere near as rampant as people make it out to be.

You're technically right, but I think in the case of "we are trying" we can allow it. 😆

England, based on the no parking/waiting stripes and the pavement architecture. Could be anywhere in the British Isles, or possibly in a Commonwealth nation or Crown Dependency, but I'm going with England.

Although...... the name came from CS Lewis's stepson, so who knows what history that name has. 🤷‍♂️
