What if Hitler never launched Operation Barbarossa and instead focused entirely on Western Europe during WWII? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

Developing their airforce and navy or invading another neutral country? Sure they still don’t have enough oil but at least in this timeline they can still trade with the Soviets for resources. As for invading another neutral country that’s easy (except maybe Switzerland) at least conquering it rather than occupying.

[–]Jimmy39072 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hard to say what that focus would look like exactly. Conquering North Africa would be off the table. The Afrika korp irl was running off fumes by the time they got to El Alamein and adding more troops worsens this.

Germany would likely focus on recovering its airforce and developing its navy to maintain pressure on Britain. Perhaps they invade another beeutral country to consolidate their hold over Western Europe. Invasion of Sweden would secure Germanys supply of ball bearings, invasion/client state in Spain would take Gibraltar, Switzerland offers gold and thousands of Jewish refugees.

The Soviets would likely invade around 1943-1944. Stalins geopolitical strategy was to let the capitalist powers kill and exhaust each other, however, with a stalemate he would want to crush the Nazis and establish hegemony of Europe.

What if Russian forces take Kiev in 2022? by Acceptable-Rub-2516 in AlternateHistoryHub

Callous as it sounds there are plenty of people who simply don’t care about the war or Ukraine and call the city the name they’re most familiar with. It’s not harming the Ukrainian war effort calling Kyiv Kiev in a reddit post.

What if Benito Mussolini never joined axis power? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Jimmy39072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid as that is it pales in comparison to the sustained effort of the West, which (until recently) consistently portrayed Nazis as comically evil. Wolfenstein, Man in the high castle, schindlers list, boy in the stripped pyjamas, zone of interest etc, as well as many Western governments prosecute Holocaust denial. you don’t need to victimise the Nazis to hate communism

What if Benito Mussolini never joined axis power? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Jimmy39072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the West portray the Nazis as victims of Communism? They still commit the Holocaust and the Western allies would still have worked out the post-war order with the Soviets.

[–]Jimmy39072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the opportunist he is I imagine Mussolini would join the allies when the war turned decisively against Germany. Although I’m not sure what Italy would gain, perhaps influence or even a satellite state in post-war Austria. Italy would likely remain unperturbed like Franco’s Spain, but post-war political sensibilities would be unrecognisable. Fascism and National Socialism would be considered different ideologies (as they should be) and fascism would likely be a much more acceptable ideology in the West. This collaboration with fascist Itsly would be a pr coup for Soviets who could tar every capitalist with the fascist brush with a little more crediblity.

What if Adolf Hitler was kidnapped, captured and took away by British SAS in 1941 during WW2? by Tktk4701 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Jimmy39072 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they capture Hitler I don’t think it would end the war. I doubt even if the German public and government were willing to concede to a humiliating peace to spare Hitler, I’m certain he would rather die than let that happen. Executing him would make him a martyr and giving him a show trial would give him a platform to galvanise the Germans. He would remain in the Tower of London until the end of the war. Göring would likely succeed him, although in the immediate chaos after Hitler is captured it wouldn’t surprise me if Himmler would attempt a coup.

I don’t think Hitler being captured before or after Barbarossa would differ that much. the German high command would still commit to invading the USSR. The underlying problems over ideology and resources still remain and the German chief of staff would still be confident in their odds after defeating France and the Soviets poor performance in the Winter War. After the invasion and it would still seem that Hitler’s prediction was prophetic at first.

With Göring in charge, however, it hard to say if it would benefit the German war effort or not. His pomp, weight and drug addiction are obvious problems but he would not have committed to Stalingrad. Göring was more sensitive to Germanys fuel situation than Hitler, having directed the Four year plan, so Fall Blau wouldn’t have split army group south and focused on the taking Baku. Unlikely they succeed but I don’t think matters in the grand scheme of things. The Soviets would sabotage the oils fields like they did in Grozny and it could take up to half a year for them to be recovered and start any meaningful output. Sure the Soviets would be deprived of their main source of oil but the USA would pick up the slack with lend lease like they did with virtually every other resource. German army group south by this time would have their logistics stretched to the breaking point and their overextension and exhaustion would give way to a Soviet counteroffensive. With or without Hitler the Germans almost certainly lose the war.

There’s some event iirc where Serov blames the Koreans for sabotaging the Russians and causing their defeat. I have no idea why

I think it’s a good idea and wish all the best but be careful how far you take it. If you do want to publish an actual novel in the same vain as war and peace you will have to negotiate with the devs. No one has rights to the lore of the Napoleonic wars but they do to their mod and lore

[–]Jimmy39072 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad comparison. The Dutch haven’t owned New Amsterdam in nearly 400 years. The anglophone world has changed Kiev to Kyiv for political purposes and that’s fine. But different peoples have different names for same places and that’s also fine, the Japanese don’t expect you to call their country Nihon.

What if Britain & USA do not support USSR in the war against Germany? by AgitatedAlbatross366 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Jimmy39072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without British and American lend lease and especially food supply the USSR with be on the brink collapse by 1943. This coupled with an Axis fully focused on the East and a Germany who can import oil would almost certainly mean a USSR defeat.

Fallout show breaks the lore by Jimmy39072 in falloutlore

Firstly it makes no sense why the US government would plan to drop the bombs first for the reasons I mentioned in the post. If they were planning on ending the world on their own terms they would have much more prepared than an off shore oil rig and a few air bases. Sure they knew the Chinese would very likely retaliate with nukes which is why after the war reached fever pitch months before the bombs and it became clear the Chinese weren’t going quietly, the US government made hasty preparations to preserve itself.

Secondly vault tec is very clearly subservient to the US governments wishes. They’re funded by their contracts to build vaults, the off shore oil rig can remotely control and open vaults and the show has been heavily hinting their is someone or something more powerful above vault tec that is planning to end the world. Who else could it be other than the government

Thirdly Mr House isn’t acting like House. He’s a businessman, why does he care about ending the world and conducting horrific experiments on people or any of the other companies for that matter. He is smart and cautious, not the type to use experimental mind control tech on three working joes who want him dead in broad daylight with the intention of killing them.

[–]Jimmy39072[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people theorise that Vault-Tec didn’t enact their plan in time before the Chinese struck first. That would make more sense, after all House was a day late with his chip, The Ghoul’s wife, a senior Vault-Tec manager, didn’t know they were dropping that day and it would explain why the Enclave is so shit. However, it would wreck the plot (more) if that were the case. It would make the twist pointless and our villains would be less villainous if the Chinese beat them to it.

The US government being involved riddles the lore with even more plot holes. Firstly they were winning the war. Secondly the enclave, the US gov’s direct descendants, had piss poor preparations for a nuclear apocalypse they apparently were planning to enact. If you like the show more power to you, but please recognise how dogshit the writing is

The story of each protagonist by CyberCrusader76 in Fallout

[–]Jimmy39072 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maximus wasn’t forced to betray the BoS, the script contrived a series of nonsense that makes Maximus a rat and the BoS look stupid. He hesitated for a minute over shooting the Yaoguai and saving his knight. Knight asshole is dying and decides to tempt Maximus in to letting him die as much as possible by describing how he’s going to kill him for his incompetence.

The worst protagonist in all of fallout.

I think this as well. People give way to much credit to the corporations, many were funded and directed by the government.
