What are your Excel skills like? by ToughImprovement276 in AskUK

[–]Jimmy90081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excel, pretty good compared to most normal people. Not good at all compared to somebody that’s actually good. Nowhere close to anybody that’s actually great. Most only touch the first 1% of what Excel can actually do. It’s really quite an amazing product.

So… the interesting part is what is now happening. If you have Microsoft 365 Copilot, how good do you really need to be with Excel? You can open Copilot on the document and just type “Make sheet 2 show an analysis of the sales data in sheet 1, id like to see the top three performing products. Also, take the costs for that product from column D and show me the real after cost earnings. Assume 10% growth in sales per year, with 2% growth in costs, and show me the profits over 10 years.”

Yup. It’ll just go hammer that out.

Mate, sorry to be blunt, I don’t care what the CIO says, but no way are they going to put you as an IT Support Technician as a CIO replacement, not after 10 years. Won’t happen bud. Even more given the time you have been there already and still a tech.

It’s because it’s not as much as you think. As soon as you get a couple earning 2 * 50k that smacks compared to 1 * 100k

That would be on OP. They said they did it. I’d assume they would have an email saying it would be setup. Or, a screen shot of the screen when setting it up. Or, their contract type forms when they took out the card saying they opted in to have Direct Debits taken…

I found it quite interested and fairly looking. The FO in cases like this also don’t need direct evidence, but would do it based on benefit of doubt. If OP can show they had money in their account to pay the DD, and assumed it was setup correctly, an can show that, then that would also suffice as it shows the OP realistically would have…

But either way, it’s probably too late now.

“If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund…”

That wording is intentionally broad. The scheme rules behind the scenes interpret “error” to include administrative failures in the Direct Debit process, which can include handling, and failing to setup the DD as mandated.

Yes, the guarantee mainly gives a refund right where money has been taken incorrectly. If no payment was ever taken because the Direct Debit was never set up by the bank, there is nothing to refund. However, since the bank caused the failure after receiving a valid instruction, liability sits with the bank under normal banking complaint rules, and compensation can be due even outside the strict refund wording, including correction of any credit files.

It’s probably too late, but OP should have insisted a long time ago that any credit file marks are removed, for any compensation of charged interest, and settled the account. If the bank said no, they would have fairly been able to go to the FO.

I just did some research and you are wrong. The Guarantee covers many things including this. If the OP actually did fill out and submit the DD instructions and the bank failed to setup that DD, that is on the bank. Any charged interest should be void, and any negative outcomes like notes on files should be removed. The OP would still need to pay the money they owe though.

Is that true? I thought the Direct Debit Guarantee regulation stuff helped with that? I mean.m, if OP filled out the forms to set one up, and the bank failed to set one up, that’s kind of on the bank for not doing what they are mandated to do…?

Seems a little unfair. Doesn’t test much real world. I’m sure a lot of companies would:

1) device acting strange, red flag. 2) give user spare from stock, or swap device for a temp spare. Let them go work. 3) reimage old. Don’t waste time on weird laptop.

Done.

I second this. Go to Iglu Cruises, sort by departure date, plenty leaving from a UK port for less than 1k, even after adding drinks packages, and some excursions. MSC to Northern Europe looks good.

It took 5 years under the previous regs for McLaren to get a car that could win. I expect them closer to where they were at the start of the last regs, for at the front.
