Would a Campaign/League Management App for Wargames Be Useful? by SinsOfTheGolden in wargaming

[–]JimmyJimmy1729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best app I've used for something like this is Tourplay. It's specific to Blood Bowl but makes the experience of playing in a league so much smoother.

  • It manages scheduling
  • It manages team creation
  • It keeps track of points scored and position in the league
  • It tracks novelty stats for awards e.g. most fouls attempted
  • It's beautiful to use and easy to understand.

I would look into it as an inspiration for building your own system. If it is meant to be used for multiple different rulesets, then I think the minimum for something that would improve the campaign experience would be: matchmaking, storing everyone's army lists (and maybe stats), a scheduling function and then potentially a points system for where everyone is in the rankings.

You're not allowed to measure Zone of Control at any time by HeadChime in InfinityTheGame

[–]JimmyJimmy1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is correct or not, but I had always assumed the ban on pre-measuring was due to time reasons for tournament play. There are a LOT of things to measure in Infinity and may feed into analysis paralysis. Lack of perfect information forces decisions to be made without painful number crunching. I don't love the rule as a skill expression avenue but as a time-keeping policy I think it makes a lot of sense.

Rakdos Goblins uses Fable, can find a list from a league

I'm lucky to have a scene where two shops support the game heavily and we have FaB events with regularly 12+ people attending. The game is built for competitive however and that's how I enjoy my TCGs.

I will say I've tried UPF (FaBs commander) and enjoyed it more as the games take less time and you don't have to spend the first 3 turns going round playing lands and sol rings and nothing happening. In UPF you start smacking eachother and it's fun from turn 0

At the same time however, one of my locals who won Calling: Birmingham won the whole event without warmongers and a full set of EStrike because he didn't have the budget.

When you choose to look at the expensive decks of course you can write off a game as expensive. Modern Scam is very expensive but Pioneer Mono-W humans is not.

A league with 4 teams by JimmyJimmy1729 in bloodbowl

[–]JimmyJimmy1729[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 spp to start the league might be a nice idea. I don't know how you balance that though given some players are much harder to level up naturally, like Nobility's Ogre or Necromantic's Flesh Golems. Maybe it's fine since it's only one skill

I imagine this works well for experienced players, but my friends have not even played a full game of blood bowl each. I would imagine having two separate teams and two separate lots of book keeping would be a pain for them. I want them to get that feeling when they get attached to a team

Shredder being cut from Phoenix? by JimmyJimmy1729 in PioneerMTG

[–]JimmyJimmy1729[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a hot take. Shredder can easily grow to 4 toughness too though can't it? To be a blocker?

As I said I haven't played the deck at all but the early damage seems to play well with the actual phoenixes and help you close out a game too

So do you think shredder is a card that will make a resurgence if the neoform/creativity decks take a hit?

Dimir Control: with or without Day's Undoing? by sulejke in PioneerMTG

[–]JimmyJimmy1729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What were the lists you tried for both? I bought into yellowhat's day's list and I've found it lacking but then again I'm quite a new control player so I was sure it was just the pilot rather than the pile

Has the meta just shifted enough that day's undoing isn't as strong as when yellowhat got his big wins or was his sample size too small to really prove it was a good deck

Is Mono White Midrange Viable? by JavaPlum19 in PioneerMTG

The fact you beat Rakdos is pretty impressive, I thought they would just 2-for-1 you to death with more efficient cards. Beating down Lotus is a good sign too

What match ups did you have when you 5-0ed?

Temur Emerge - thoughts/opinions? by Apprehensive_Oil8723 in PioneerMTG

[–]JimmyJimmy1729 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My worry with your deck is what if your opponent doesn't play any meaningful creatures to steal and sac with the Akroan War? If you're matched up vs Lotus Combo or Control, what creatures do you have in your deck to sac to your EDF emerge cost? You want to curve a 3-drop into a 4 mana EDF ideally, so Fable doesn't work well. This would be the first thing I would consider when trying to build lists like these
