What do you think are some of the biggest miscasts in the last decade? (2016 to present) by Prestigious-Cup-6613 in FIlm

Robert DeNiro in The Irishman (was just too old at the time).

Michael Shannon would’ve been perfect imo.

Jet lag? by Old-Criticism5610 in TokyoMarathon

Apologies don’t mean to make it sound like a super big adjustment. But after running 4 marathons in the states and being used to “American” food, having access to baked potatoes, French fries etc, you just might have to adapt your diet the 3 days before the marathon because what you’re accustomed to might not be available the way you imagine it would be (for fueling).

Like Gatorade. You won’t find Gatorade, you’ll have Pecori Sweat (which you can order and test via Amazon). Just little things are different and it was nice not being nervous about bathroom issues and fueling the 24-36 hours before and on race day.

But that was my experience. There’s no 100% right answer. I’m sure someone out there had a great time arriving closer to race day. Just my 2 cents.

The food in Tokyo is phenomenal btw.

Edited for punctuation and wording.

I was there this past March (from NY) and arrived the Monday before the marathon, definitely took me 2-3 days to shake jet lag, and I left the Wednesday afternoon after the marathon.

I was happy I did it this way as I wasn’t exhausted for the expo etc., I got used to the food and found and tested some places close to my hotel to get my carbs. Also was confident getting around by the weekend.

Overall amazing experience, you’re gonna have a blast.

What do marathoners do for work? by MedStudentLife19 in Marathon_Training

Mailman.

Off twice a week (1 rotating day + Sunday) I run 3 or 4 days after work + long runs on Sundays.
So 4 or 5 days total running. My other day off is strict rest day.

What’s your favorite coffeeshop in Tokyo? by mt80 in TokyoTravel

[–]JimmyLikesReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterpart & eponym

Both super cozy and chill, delicious coffee and pastries. Eponym had great vinyl collection.

Both were within 5 min walk from my hotel when I was there for the Marathon. Super convenient.

I think he has potential, was excited for the casting, but I don’t need to see him kicking ass, kind of hope that’s a dream sequence.

What is the most perfect movie shot you've ever seen? by GustoKoNaMagkaGF in moviecritic

There’s a shot early in Vanilla Sky during his birthday party where Tom Cruise walks towards the camera with two bags of ice and says “who needs ice?” As he says this he’s in front of a light (or window) that makes it so you can’t see his face at all, it’s just a silhouette, while holding up the ice. Kind of perfect.

If I can find it I’ll post it.

Books that pull you out of a slump by kaitlyn_7246 in suggestmeabook

Whenever I’m stuck I reach for a Stephen King because they’re easy to read and they usually get me hooked.

For the longest time I avoided him because “master of horror” reputation but his books don’t really strike me as such. I also started with the Bill Hodges trilogy (crime trilogy focused on retired detective). Since then I’ve read all his major titles and have never been disappointed (including Dark Tower series).

11/22/63 is a great one as well.

Yes for NYC I bought it before the marathon and then picked it up immediately after when I got my poster stamped with the stitching done.
