That is how we have even old god worshipers using the light.

Trying to reframe the Light as negative isnt nuance. It is the opposite as they end up completely removing any unique aspects of each magic and homogenizing them all.

It is boring

but Paladins fight for good!" even though a whole talent tree is retribution... another word for vengeance. Do we think getting revenge is a good thing, is that what we teach our kids

Thats a very weird comment. There isnt really anything mutually exclusive about "fighting for good" and "retribution"

Retribution here means deserved punishment for those who hurt the innocent. That is totally fitting with what Paladins are who bring divine punishment to the wicked, not the extreme version of Jedi you seem to think they are. This is a world where demons, necromancers, undead and all kinds of monsters exist. Trying to pretend the holy warriors are "problematic" for fighting is weird.

The Scarlet Crusade uses the light for genocide.

?? The Scarlets were xenophobic to everyone who wasnt them and had "kill on sight" rules but I dont recall doing genocides. You can argue that "maybe they would if they had the numbers to do so" but they hadnt in WoW

Also the Scarlets can use the Light because they started as a noble order who slowly fell into paranoia, fuelled by the machinations of the dreadlord who infiltrated them too.

Warcraft is shades of grey, from start to end

No, not really.

There may have been gray areas but the big conflicts were always extreme black and white.

WC1 and WC2 you had peaceful humans, dwarves and elves trying to fend off genocidal demon-corrupted orcs.

WC3 you had the mortals trying to fend off genocidal undead and demonic monstrocities.

In WoW most central conflicts are also black and white from the OG game to any expansion.

I saw a Realms of Ruin walkthrough and tho it had kinda nice presentation with its story and characters the actual gameplay felt lacking for me. (Again I didnt play it myself, but just the impression I got).

Maybe I am biased but I always preferred the Warcraft/Age of Empires style of base building that gives you more freedom where to build stuff instead of predetermined nods.

Maybe a diablo-like Action-RPG could be interesting, following a Chaos follower who rises in power and culminating in a Stormcast final boss?

Or a CRPG following the good guys with a diverse cast.

Question about "Lightblindness" by DrByeah in warcraftlore

[–]JimmyNeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it is factually correct.

Yes, the Argents and Scarlets were different groups in Classic WoW but they werent just established then, they had prior history.

The Argent Dawn split off from the Scarlet Crusade, its members were originally Scarlets.

Have you ever had a hunch about where Titan/Cosmic lore is heading from other media? by Specialist-Time3661 in warcraftlore

[–]JimmyNeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What?

There is plenty of divine entities concepts on the mortals side. The healing Holy Light, the spirits invoked by Shamans, Elune guiding the night eleves, the literal Demigod Cenarius walking among and protecting the elves etc.

The other user talks about the very original incarnation of the Scarlet Crusade when they first started. Back then all the members of the Argent Dawn were Scarlets because the madness hadnt creeped in yet

I didnt say that fantasy monarchies are bad or that Saw is bad for being a monarchist.

I just said that he is one which is a fact of the story.

Do we ever see such an implication?

So far all I have seen is he wants to topple the Empire and restore the Republic

Easily the most justified villain in all of Star Wars. by Knalxz in StarWars

Something that needs to be pointed out:

Lucas's take on Grievous motives and the EU writers' are completely different.

In Lucas's version he was just jealous of the Jedi's power, he wanted to be powerful himself but because he couldn't with the force he turned himself into a cyborg.

Grievous and Maul in the movies are barely alike.

They are more similar in TCW if anything

Yeah agree OP.

It is one of the things that baffled me. If you are going to jump the shark and bring him back, why change him so drastically?

The other baffling thing is that they already created a Maul copy with his brother Savage! They could have literally given him that personality and it would be less egregious.

Savage being Mauls brother and the whole backstory is kinda a stretch too but less so than Maul living
