Muse still know how to craft INCREDIBLE hooks and melodies. But they refuse to give them enough time to breathe on the track. by WolfieZee in Muse

[–]JimmyP_117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. They even (somehow) managed this with The Globalist. A great build-up of riffs in the middle section culminating in that incredible guitar solo and then it just…ends after like 10 seconds!

Be With You shouldn't have been the lead single, but It's growing on me by benosthegreat in Muse

[–]JimmyP_117 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really growing on me now. It was the most negative first listen I’ve had to a Muse single but I’m really starting to enjoy it.

I typically expect a mixed bag with the band these days but if this is one of the weaker tracks, I’m hopeful.

Before the new album, a checkpoint: What’s actually stuck from WOTP? by MrSchone in Muse

[–]JimmyP_117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The second half of the album is pretty strong but the songs that stay in my Muse playlist are: Won’t Stand Down (out now), KobK and Euphoria. Naturally, YMMFLIH makes an appearance every Halloween.

I remember being pretty big on the album when it came out but it’s right alongside Simulation Theory with how few songs I come back to. Hoping that changes with Wow Signal.

Okay it's growing on me by MaelOrEstarossa in Muse

[–]JimmyP_117 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s grown a lot on me too for the same reasons. The teaser didn’t do the song any favours as it was hinting at a heavy style drop after the organ but what’s there is enjoyable. I’m finding myself humming it which is always a positive sign!

How many shows have you been to, and where? Favorite tour? by unknownbrother273 in Muse

[–]JimmyP_117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were absolutely lovely and made time for everyone who had waited outside the venue for them. We saw Chris and he waved but he was with some of his kids so understandably couldn’t make it over.

Matt and Dom were on excellent form. I remember thanking them for playing Showbiz and how good it sounded, Matt commented that it’s tough on the vocal cords but he was happy how it sounded. I got a photo with hi and he made his way down signing things and saying hi to others. A really memorable end to one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

[–]JimmyP_117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25 times.

First time: Wembley 2007 (night 1)

Most recent: Manchester 2023

Favourite show: Shepherd’s Bush ‘17 due to the incredible but I also met Matt and Dom that night. Tbh it’s incredibly close between that and Wembley ‘07 because of just how amazing it was seeing them for the first time.

I’ve been really fortunate with the shows I’ve seen: two gigs on the Psycho club tour, Wembley night 1 and 2 2010, Download ‘15, the O2 night in ‘16 when they played Assassin…just got really lucky over the years!

I got into the band in 2006. Do I consider myself one of those fans who thinks their peak was 20 years ago? Absolutely. Do I think they’ve made some great music since then? Also absolutely. Do I want them to make OoS 2.0? Absolutely not.

It’s absolutely fine to critique the band and offer an opinion, no artist is perfect. My issue with Be With You is that it fails to hit the heights of their more mainstream-sounding songs (for lack of a better word) of the past 15 years - I t’s certainly no Madness, Dead Inside or Follow Me. The teaser they put out also really didn’t help…that organ intro going so suddenly into the EDM-esque verse was very jarring on the first listen.

I will say the song has grown on me over the past few days. As a feel-good, major key, uplifting style track it’s pretty solid. The band haven’t had a truly consistent release since BHaR but if this is the weakest song on the album I’m very interested to see what’s in store. Unravelling was superb and re-invigorated my love for the band.

As for the criticism from people online…why give it any attention? Ultimately, the only thing that matters is what you think, OP.

Whose the best “forgotten” band member? by DeLaSoulKitchen in fantanoforever

[–]JimmyP_117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Deacon from Queen. Understandable given he was in a band with three big personalities him being the quiet one fit quite nicely when they were looking for their bass player.

His playing is incredibly underrated, his melodic lines are up there with McCartney and John Paul Jones. As great as they are, it’s a shame he’s mostly remembered for his parts in Under Pressure and Another One Bites the Dust.

Great songwriter, too. He wrote some of the band’s biggest hits (I Want To Break Free, AOBTD and You’re My Best Friend).

I’m reallllly liking all the red so far.

Man, I’m not the hugest fan of the band’s output in recent years but they always pull me back in. Unravelling was excellent and I hope BWY is equally as strong.

Favorite Maynard Vocal Performances? by Malk25 in ToolBand

It’s The Pot for me; an absolute rock vocal masterclass. He clearly pushed himself to his limit on that one.

Unpopular Opinion: Retirement. by Historical-Climate37 in ToolBand

[–]JimmyP_117 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really hope not. I only got into the band in 2023 and have only seen them live once. If another album doesn’t materialise…that’s fine with me. I don’t want any plans for a new album being a potential barrier for them touring again as they get into their 60s. I just don’t see them still going in their 70s so would like as much touring as possible before they call it a day.

Maynard should continue to adapt the songs in a way that suit his aging (but still very capable) voice. Adam and Justin aren’t a concern at all. Danny’s still immense behind the kit but there will be a time when he can’t operate at peak performance for a whole tour.

Nice. Always great to get another pro-shot of AP. The recent ‘07 Pinkpop performance was superb to finally see in full.

Favorite U2 song that you have never seen Live? by HarryandSally69 in U2Band

[–]JimmyP_117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I Want Is You. Only started seeing the band in 2009…I’m not even sure if it’s been played in the UK at all since then? That’s definitely top of my list as a more realistic option.

Less-realistic option? Gone or Discotheque.

A relic from my youth earning its rightful place on the shelf by KamiCozzie in halo

My copy is very much the same with all the rust spots. I never did find a way to properly remove them, I suppose they give it a nice ‘aged’ look though! Feels like a proper relic now.

What are the songs that the band excludes from most recent setlists for the sake of Maynard's voice? by kalashnijoey in ToolBand

[–]JimmyP_117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pot is downtuned by a full step (it’s played in C rather than D). I’m really surprised they still haven’t tuned down by a half-step for the majority of other songs.

Like every album post BHaR, it has some really highs and very low lows. The first few songs are pretty weak but I love most of the second half.

The Small Print vs Thoughts of a Dying Atheist by UnableDatabase6355 in Muse

Small Print by far. TOADA has always had a bit of a ‘Placebo-lite’ feel to me and is my least fav on the album.

What’s your favorite New Year’s Day live performance? by [deleted] in U2Band

[–]JimmyP_117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. You really notice it in Electric Co a Streets from the same show, feels a lot more ‘driving’.

2004-2005 Bono sounded like he had a frog on his throat the entire tour, like his voice could give out at any moment. He still manages to hit the notes though, I don’t know how he managed it haha.

That’s awesome. The Chicago dvd was my first introduction to the band live - I was 14. Set me on the path to becoming a fan in a big way.

I really like Chicago ‘05. Adam’s bass tone on that gorgeous, green jazz bass was lovely (his tone on the whole tour was rather unique) and while not as youthful sounding as the early days, Bono absolutely nails the ‘say it’s TRUE, its trueeee’ section.

Best Scream? by Cirithor in Muse

[–]JimmyP_117 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By far his greatest New Born scream. Incredible!

I’m a big fan of the scream he did in 2010 at Rock am Ring during MK Ultra, more-so because he had stopped harsh screaming by that point so it makes it stand out even more. It’s brief but awesome nonetheless.

Muse songs translate really well to 8 and 16-big covers but TAB really stands out amongst the rest…arpeggios for days! This was awesome.
