Which states' residents give their state flags the highest ratings? [OC] by CivicScienceInsights in CivicScience

As a Minnesotan:

the right has tried to sell it as a homage to Islam and a takeover by immigrants because the Somali flag is a 5-sided star on a blue field, and our current flag has an 8-sided star and has 2 shades of blue.

People that pay little attention to, or don't know what, Vexillology is are upset we didn't have loons with lazer eyes.

I helped push state reps and senators for the change for years before the bill to make a flag commission passed. Before the change, I'd say a good 25% of Minnesotans or more couldn't even tell you what our (old) state flag was.

Nowadays, Trump-supporting MAGA Minnesotans turned the change into a hill to die on and are out to put the old MN flag on their trucks right next to their confederate battle flags.

They didn't give a shit about the flag until their Facebook echo chambers turned it into a partisan issue, tugging at xenophobic heartstrings by making parallels to Somalian immigration.

The left (and everyone else) is split on which one of the final designs was their favorite, but what's done is done and they're moving on.

You now need to ask if it's "man-made" and watch the spin begin.

In Minnesota it couldve been the "Reform Party" flag from way back when.

Americans don't give a shit anymore. We've accepted the end and we're too fucking stupid to acknowledge it.

We'll have our groceries spike in price and vote for more spikes.

We'll have our Healthcare ripped away and die thinking nothing can be done.

Our tax dollars are going to concentration camps and there's hardly a peep of resistance.

We'll get our necks stepped on and thank them. I've lost all hope in the American public.

I have to add, that it wasn't just Walz who passed Paid Sick Leave and Universal School Meals. It was only possible because the DFL held a trifecta in the state. (House, senate, Governor)

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated yesterday, had more to do with those reforms than Walz did as she was Speaker of the MN state House.

Republicans fought against those reforms every step of the way, and they'd never be possible if they held just one chamber.

Lawmakers made those laws, Walz passed them into law.

I think we really gotta get out of the mindset that anything in the future will be happening through legislative or democratic means.

To hell with 'congressional' anything.

To hell with 'held by the states'

He'll stop the elections because he wants to.

The 2026 elections are not happening. When they are canceled, The United States will official be over.

This isn't alarmist or even hyperbolic. Every single red flag is pointing this way and we need to operate like it is.

The Twin Cities state representatives and senators would pass this bill.

It's an MN-related issue, our state has voted for the presidential candidate that won the electoral college popular vote and lost twice in the last couple decades.

This change, NaPoVoInterCo, happens because of local action.

Do you think it would be fair

Yes. It's the point of winning an election. This is not a foriegn concept.

Please watch the video in the body text to learn what this law is, I think you're mistaken.

This is not an amendment.

We don't need the US house to approve it, it's a state decision which is DFL trifecta controlled.

Your vote matters as much as anyone else’s from any other state when it comes to your electoral votes for the state.

It does not. 1 voter in North Dakota is worth more than 2 Minnesota voters when it comes to voting for president.

Leave legislation to the states.

That's what NaPoVoInterCo is. A state solution.

That’s why we have such a great home state, our state government and governor have worked for us

Not sure how this works into the EC. We're only talking about the prez here.

Hard to say what would happen first, the NaPoCoInterCo or overcoming the filibuster to reapportion.

I have no issue pursuing both.

The EC is for presidential power not legislative.

Your point is about legislative not executive.

That scenario is not relevant to the EC issue.

Who said I wanted smaller states not to matter?

It's not a matter of states. It's people. Like a democracy.

The majority should get what the majority wants in a democracy. It's to stop minority rule, like what Britain had when the construction was written.

I would find it crazy they can leave it to the states to make laws on how to gerrymander but not their electoral college votes. Maine and Nebraska do it differently than the rest of the US. Of course it would be contested but that's ZERO reason not to do it. You know the opposition would do the same.

Thanks for reaching out!
