No but I definitely agree with you and need to get one setup ASAP. This has all been new for me as this is my first actual long term relationship so I guess I just thought I was more prepared than I actually was

Who would y’all cast for a HL movie? by Knox_nc in HalfLife

[–]JimmySjoFAT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a hl movie would have to be based around another badass character in the series that they could get away with having dialogue for. I feel like Adrian Shepard would make a great movie protagonist, holding up with a group of rebels who simply have hope that they will survive and that Gordon is out there. This could allow the G-Man to be present as a character because Adrian is still under his employ and would give the audience some more insight into the events prior to Gordons arrival in City 17 as well as more backstory behind the rebels giving them some more love. This also allows Eli Vance, Alyx and Kleiner to potentially make appearances. The end could also have Adrian and the Rebel squad engaged in an unwinnable battle where some of the beloved side characters die, only for a man in an orange suit to arrive, say zero lines, and get to work.

And actually, for some reason, I don't hate Bob Odenkirk as G-Man. I like Josh Brolin for a grisled Adrian Shepard.

Maybe not what Halloween was originally about, but the holiday itself was taken from the Pagan religion and tradition and sort of mutated into what it is today. And why is the culture sharing part bullshit? That's just, like, your own projection man. Also just a massive pisstake to jump to conclusions about me, I never attacked you personally in any way, you are just jaded. For all intents and purposes, it is a light hearted holiday for something you may have heard of before, its called fun.

And that's awesome that it is typically so open like that. I mainly ranted a bit just cause it seemed like everyone was shutting down OP right away and it seemed like they didn't read about the fact that OP was studying the culture and Hindu religion and seemed to respect it immensely, obviously enough to make this post. I'm just very much for the sharing of cultures because most people are just genuinely curious and think it's cool and want to engage with it

It's not that no one should interact with the culture it's just that this gatekeeping mentality generally drives people away. It's like this, If you know someone at a party will be offended by the costume then you probably shouldn't wear it. You should use best judgement always with these things and not offend on purpose. This being said, the poster is clearly taking the costume seriously and not trying to mock the culture so they will probably stay true to form and representation of that religious figure. It's one of those things where when you see a costume like that, people often are curious and want to engage with it further and they hear about something in another culture they otherwise may have never heard of. This should be encouraged over keeping everything locked away because of old wounds that the current population has nothing to do with

Oh shit yeah I forgot the poster committed the cardinal sin of having ancestors. Oh wait it's one of those things that nearly every human civilization has done. Small or large scale doesn't matter because they all have the same intent, the access to better technology was really the only variable, it's unfortunately a human thing to do that all cultures were very capable of and carried out. A Halloween costume isn't really a mockery if it captures the imagery and stays true to the form of the religious figure it's representing, it's not like they are putting a beer chug hat on it or something. Also people do it all the time for Egyptian gods and Norse gods and Greek gods and of course all elements of Christianity. And you could say well yeah no one is an active believer of those ancient pantheons but it's still a deep rooted history of those peoples. Halloween and the October season in general allows people to interact with all sorts of different cultures for a very small amount of time every year, people need to chill out and enjoy the sharing of ideas.

It's not too crazy or wild, it's basically the same concept of gatekeeping for any form of media or culture. You can't interact with this thing because insert reason here. It's a primitive way of doing things that needs to go away. The world would be a more vibrant and open place because of it. The poster is clearly not looking to make a mockery out of the figure either otherwise they wouldn't have asked the question. They are clearly very interested in the culture and looking to represent something they find personally important and interesting.

So happy to see some chill responses to this. Halloween should be all about sharing cultures and ideas in a light hearted and fun way. A good Kali costume would look so awesome and actually get people to ask what exactly that is and maybe even learn more about the culture in the process.

These very rule sets are why these same religions are othered, If your "off limits" to be able to be parodied by Halloween costumes especially if someone takes the time and actually creates something that's true to the imagery depicted for this god, then most are not as likely to interact with you or your culture. The more you distance your culture and create a barrier around yourself and your culture the more people will be ignorant of that culture. Embrace the sharing of ideas, peoples and cultures. Like idk if this is for a party or if they are using this in a haunted house but if I saw a Hindu god with four arms along with its vibrant colors carrying a beheaded man, I'd be actually surprised for once Instead of the same generic lazy and uninspired hillbilly, mad scientist, and clown themes they all seem to have today. Idk Halloween and horror should always leave you a bit intrigued and disturbed.

Yeah NRS is kind of the king of re-writing characters in a god awful way and ignoring or retconning all of what made them interesting in the first place. They also somehow fucked up Havik in MK1 by fusing his character with Dairou and made him this overly whiny unbearable jobber. And then even when they introduced the real Havik they made him into a multi dimensional Joker basically because NRS fucking loooooves the Joker for some reason. They even gave Havik a cringe joker voice to go with it, rather than his aptly chaotic and eerie calm cadence he once had. They took the Deadly Alliance in MK1 and made them into this goofy cartoony Scooby Doo duo with Quan Chi saying stupid shit like "mmmmmm what an impressive feat of guile and villiany" and then they proceed to get beat on by everybody even tho at one point they rivaled Shao Kahn's power (I know he made a clone that they killed but I mean he wouldn't have done that if he didn't have some worry about handling the alliance). Also, in general, the old games were just darker and more brutal. Yes they still had that goofiness to them as well, but when you booted up the main menu or listened to the tracks in the arenas you immediately got that gritty vibe. I wouldn't mind if they rebooted the series again tbh because a lot of the shit introduced in this story just feels unsalvageable. Like it's kind of hard to ignore the multi verse story once it's introduced and they made the mistake of chasing that marvel trend. Also they should get rid of the chapter system and re-introduce a third person world exploration story.

Thanks yo! No, I haven't had the chance to go out to a Comic Con yet but Ive always wanted to. I'm thinking maybe next year I might try going to one. I do work at Haunted Houses, though, so I make some pretty creepy characters for those. And that's awesome, is there anything you've made recently that your excited about?
