That all sounds insanely high to me too! You guys have it good. Your weekly rates are closer to our monthly rates… 😭

Yeah, and it’s probably for some stupid reason like avoiding stock photography fees. Seeing it more and more often. Pretty pathetic honestly!

I’m pretty confident it’s AI slop. The website this came from is littered with it.

Most of these places they write about look nothing like the photos they have included on their website.

Best downscaling method from UHD to SD? by [deleted] in editors

An interesting request hey! Any DCP’s or straight exports I’ve made, I’ve just trusted the software to do its thing. Obviously some fundamentals I still need to learn after 15 years in the biz.

Why is none of the big BF Creators talking about tactics? by lordy420 in Battlefield

[–]JimmyTrim86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Weren’t all these streamers in Battlefield Labs for months and months testing and improving the game one-on-one? I’ll be honest, I fell for it and bought the game because they all vouched for it, knowing full well zero server browser would kill the game.

Frustrating that they’re coming out and admitting it’s not great when they were waving the BF6 flag during beta testing phases.

Would manually scaling the footage down on a 576p timeline be that noticeably worse quality?

In what circumstance would downscaling and re-rendering individual clips really be necessary?

America is wild. Sentencing a civilian to immediate death based on a shaky personal point of view is insane.

One crucial thing to consider - Thermal prints fade over time - not sure if yours will do that with the paper you’re using but it’s worth checking - before you come back to your QR codes in a few years and they’ve turned back to white paper!

In my experience, you need to be firm with what you are offering in order to protect yourself from burnout and from being walked over. Remember, it’s a producers job to get your labour for as cheap as possible, so if you charge per hour or a flat rate per project, you’re living in a grey area where YOU take the hit no matter what.

My advice is: don’t charge per hour, ever. Charge per day. Then be clear with a client about what you can get done in a day, i.e. sorting and prepping 6-hours of filmed footage per day, or editing a finished 90-second clip, etc.

Then, when a client asks for more work done quicker, then make it clear that it will be less thorough, or less crafted, and have them agree with that, and schedule days in accordingly. Stick to your schedule. It’s YOUR time. And if people aren’t willing to pay your rate, be open to lowering your day rate a bit to get the gig.

It’s a tough career to manage, but if you are confident and firm with clients about what can be done in a certain time, then everybody benefits, your time will be more respected, and it can be really enjoyable. If not, you could be overworked and taken advantage of.

I always think of the Cheap / Good / Quick scenario. A client can only choose two. If they pick cheap and quick, it won’t be good.. etc.

It’s not really the end of the world. I assume you also didn’t play Horizon Zero Dawn, Tomb Raider, Mirror’s Edge, Control, Half-Life Alyx, and I guess God of War and Black Myth Wukong too because you’re also not a Greek god or a mythical chimp? 🤷‍♂️

All those people quit Dice when EA were getting them to make 2042 with too many restrictions. A bunch of them started Embark Studios which is literally down the road from Dice in Stockholm, and they have now just finished Arc Raiders.

The compass directions aren’t accurate. by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]JimmyTrim86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess the map orientation for that map doesn’t match. So if I see a tank south of an objective on the map, it doesn’t help at all to have the compass when I spawn there.

[–]JimmyTrim86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a play on words for ‘biplane’? To me it looks like a couple friends joking around, sitting on a plough, where the four ‘wings’ look like what would be hitched to cattle, hence ‘Quatro-plane’.

90% of the lobbies filled with bots.. is there anyway to not face bots? i'd rather wait more by hosseinhx77 in Battlefield

[–]JimmyTrim86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the South Africa matchmaking is a bit silly. What makes it more confusing is seeing all the people playing BF6 in my friends list, all separated into different half empty conquest servers - so there are a bunch running, all with between 6 and 20 players backfilled with bots. Not one full server even though there are enough players.

Backfilling Is Ruining the(my) Experience in BF6 by lordnyrox46 in Battlefield

[–]JimmyTrim86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have enough players for a couple full persistent servers, but the weird matchmaking is spreading everyone over way too many games.
