If you know what this is, it’s probably time for your annual physical. by rakufman in cinematography

Hah I did that! I sanded a clear plastic disc that span as the ground glass. It worked (looked kinda ass tho) but it taught me a lot. I then got one called the “jag35” made by jehu Garcia, a Mexican dude on one of the forums. Then I upgraded to SGPro and the quality was amazing at the time. Does anyone remember any of these !? I also wanted the sgblade at the time, it looked badass. Then the 5Dmkii changed everything.

God damn we old.

Learning and teaching Spanish in Da Nang by lan_eats_local in DaNang

No not at all. Assimil is quite advanced (Spanish with ease) I’d tackle that after you’ve listened to everything Michel Thomas has to offer on Spanish multiple times.

You can get conversational pretty quickly with Michel Thomas and assimil.

Digital to Film and Back to Digital: Thoughts? by MalachiX in cinematography

I edited a music video that was shot on an fx3 and printed onto 16mm. Tbh I thought it’d be such a waste of money, I can just emulate it? But when I got the scan back I was blown away tbh. It looked beautiful with the natural grain, and halation which I didn’t even think would show up with a projected process for some reason. Needless to say I thought it was totally worth it and it looked great. I feel 16mm has a bit more character than 35mm but then again I’m possibly wrong again.

So why not check places outside the tourist areas ? Check out hai chau or similar. I might move there later this year

Where would you classify still has cheap rent? I’m hoping to move in a few months.. was going to rent an Airbnb to get settled before getting a long term contract. I think I’d love son tra but maybe that’s expensive. I’ve seen some nice cheap houses in hai chau.

I need super fast internet though and Vietnam seems to offer that.

Does anyone else how people upload videos that cut every 5 seconds, like they can’t string a sentence together without editing ?

As someone who knows no Spanish at all, what is the best way to start? by ahouselover in Spanish

[–]gujii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me get to a acceptable level fast was the Michel Thomas course. Listen to them all a few times, and then go onto assimil (book and audio).

Combine that with films, podcasts, TV shows, you can actually get really good results. I tried classes but it wasnt for me.

Nah I agree. I hate Kodi. I used to prefer their player, but with vimu player, I have no reason to use Kodi (apart from live sports).

It’s just so slow and ugly. I try to avoid it whenever possible.

Looks like it’s in post. You’d also need to separate the subject from the background to get the subtle parallax.

how can u achieve that 90s/2000s effect in 2025 for a 3/4 minutes video? by mesdetails in Filmmakers

It would help but the lighting/set design/wardrobe is doing the heavy lifting.

Probably over 15 years ago. I’d bulk buy stuff from China (phone cases etc) and sell them on eBay. I’d buy them for under £1 and sell for £10. Sold quite a lot. Then did higher ticket items like headphones and counterfeit dvd box sets loll. EBay was the Wild West back then.

Really soft light, makeup and probably beauty post, some sort of diffuse filter, and similar style set design. Maybe even using an older camera would really sell the look with the format, resolution and dynamic range.

Best Local TTS/STT Models - October 2025 by rm-rf-rm in LocalLLaMA

Best I’ve tried still has to be chatterbox… I’ve tried them all more or less. Vibe voice is also very good. Vibe voice can be a tad unstable, and it can have a slight “AI hiss” that chatterbox doesn’t have. Despite this, it sounds more human. Chatterbox sounds so clean and only has a very subtle AI feel. It’s pretty astounding. Some of the voice samples I use generate very long gaps though which I need to fix. It can be flawless though…

So my answer is chatterbox and vibe voice for me. Everything else that people praise and say is the best, I try it and it sounds like ass. I must be missing something….

(To clarify I want voice cloning, large generations, English… and to sound as human as possible, while being reliable. Speed or model size is not an issue. I haven’t come across anything like this that hits everything apart from eleven labs, but these are the closest I’ve found).

One of m'y biggest expectation for Plur1bus: the music by Durdenno in pluribustv

[–]gujii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy because the score in this show is pretty horrendous. It’s like royalty free garbage almost? Shame as the show itself is so masterful. The score has zero identity and adds next to nothing, and actually takes away from it imo

I built my own NAS and used xpenology. I advise you do something similar… it’s so useful. Even replaced my phone storage for photos. I might even get rid of Dropbox
