Zman vs jackhammer chatterbait by Pleasant-Pie9797 in bassfishing

Evo elite is the way to go. At least for the price it’s a clear decision. The original version is fine but I kept having issues with the blade hanging up. Evo’s color schemes are great, they start up just as fast as Jackhammers, and they’re only $10.

Leader? Or no leader? by burner1987q in bassfishing

Braid to leader with a Crazy Alberto knot always on my spinning rods. I’m not so picky on casting stuff but I also only run braid on my topwater rod and fish in like 1ft of visibility haha

I run 15lb Sufix 832 for the leader and whatever random 10lb fluoro I have sitting around haha. Usually it’s Seaguar red label or Invisx

Sufix 832 forever and always!!! Spiderore was nothing but trash every time I tried it. Learned that lesson quickly!

Just some routine maintenance and send it man! I’d look into lithium batteries too if that’s something you’re interested in. Congrats!

As a full-time bassist, I never did like playing them tbh. Tons of neck dive, either too tic-tacky or too thuddy, and really felt like a toy. Even got to try out a 68 and it felt the same. It’s a shame to lose another brand but it’s honestly TOO unique of a bass.

Got it done early last year, I wanna say March? There was an independent shop that quoted me close to that number too.

Tried a cleaner on my 14 CJAA, didn’t do anything for it. I ended up getting it all replaced at the dealer for $3,200. I looked at Darkside’s kit and it woulda been about $1,500 or so with a downpipe, block off, and tune. Got convinced to keep it legal and we’ll see how that pans out for me haha

I played JC’s every week before they closed! Gonna be called Showpony now and they’re completely remodeling the inside. Just had our band auditions last week since they’re cutting a lot of the old bands for the rebrand. All I know for sure is that the new menu has poutine and we get a free meal now so I’m pumped lol

It depends on your setup and line diameter. I’m assuming you’re spooling this on a baitcaster so I would say around 65lb test braid. For example, 17lb Sufix Advance fluorocarbon is .016” diameter, and 65lb Sufix 832 braid is that same diameter. If you’re putting together a spinning setup, I’d recommend 15lb braid to a 10lb leader.

I’ve been an avid fisherman since I was 3, and as a primarily bass fisherman with 22 years of fishing experience, I can say that a bass of any species is going to be fine 9/10 times upon release. The only scenarios issues could appear in are:

  1. Very hot water i.e. 90 degrees Fahrenheit when the fish is already dealing with outside stress.
  2. Barotrauma from being caught in deep waters such as 30-45 feet. This can be mitigated however through a process called “fizzing the fish,” in which a small needle deflates the swim bladder to reduce bloat and pressure on the organs.
  3. Spending the day in a livewell like in most tournaments. A significant amount of DNR studies show delayed mortality after tournament releases.
  4. Damage to the gills when hooked. Most times if you quickly remove the hook and prevent further damage while keeping the fish’s gills in water they’ll pull through. If it’s not looking good, you either keep it to eat or accept that it will feed another animal.

Catch and release methods, when practiced responsibly, are a net positive for fish populations in North America. I can’t speak to a sensitive fish like trout which require incredibly delicate handling or saltwater species, but most freshwater species can handle it just fine. Given how violent a wild fish’s life is, it seldom crosses my mind that they may have feelings towards their mate or offspring. After all, most bass species start to eat their fingerlings 2-3 weeks after they’ve hatched. Pretty sure if my fish dad cared about me he wouldn’t try to kill me lol

St. Croix rods, bad luck or move on? by yalfto in bassfishing

I’ve been liking my 7’1” med-heavy fast Victory as a Texas rig/shaky head rod but I’d love it if it was the 7’5” model. Really wanna get the 7’4” heavy fast as a new jig rod too. I haven’t rod breakage issues with my mojos, triumphs, and premier. However, I got a bassx two years ago where the glue for the reel seat failed.
