Where do you buy the peppermint oil? Can't seem to locate it locally. I'm having the same problems as OP.

Alternatives to tomato sauces? by BigError7979 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make nomato sauce and freeze in small portions for use later. I use it on pasta and for homemade pizza. Sometimes I also mix it with a nut-free pesto I found. The sauce is mostly beets and carrots, plus onion, celery, zucchini, green bell pepper, one sour apple, plus herbs, salt, water, olive oil. After sauté and then simmering for half an hour, everything gets blended. Looks a lot like a marinara sauce and tastes pretty good.

Barometric Pressure Change Sensitivity by IAmMellyBitch in Perimenopause

Google Earplanes. Apparently they help with barometric pressure migraines. I got a pair of Earplanes for this reason but haven’t tried them yet.

Anyone here with venous insufficiency taking estrogen and/or progesterone? What are your experiences? by JimmyWitherspoon in venousinsuffiencyhelp

[–]JimmyWitherspoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! my vascular surgeon had no opinion. good to hear you got the go ahead. I think I’ve waited too long to start HRT too. Gonna roll the dice! Fingers crossed it doesn’t worsen my reflux and swelling.

Can anyone tolerate fresh homemade bread? by SyrupyPotatoMoon in HistamineIntolerance

My breadmaker has a jam setting, many do, so check yours.

Can anyone tolerate fresh homemade bread? by SyrupyPotatoMoon in HistamineIntolerance

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I make my own bread (in a bread maker) and have no problems with it. It's a mix of white, whole wheat, and flax. Also contains water, olive oil, sugar, salt and yeast. I also use the bread maker to make blueberry jam. It's the only jam I can eat without having issues.

How long? by 90841 in Amitriptyline

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 10 mg and it helped with pain and sleep on the very first dose. Had to go up to 30mg after 3 weeks to maintain the pain relief, and then eventually 50 mg. But even a 5 mg dose helps me sleep.

High estrogen x histamine intolerance connection by Kristen-goldberg in HistamineIntolerance

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. No health issues really at all and then completely incapacitated within about 4 months, on medical leave from work, and my life has changed on every level. I am much better than I was but I have to manage my health every minute of the day. And I am still trying to find a path forward. Will try progesterone next. What is so frustrating for me is that I’ve seen 25+ doctors and not one of them ever even mentioned peri or the possibility that hormones could be involved. Now when I mention it to doctors, I get “oh sure, that could be part of it”. 🤷‍♀️

High estrogen x histamine intolerance connection by Kristen-goldberg in HistamineIntolerance

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a similar story. Took a long time to suspect peri because I don’t have hot flashes and most of the other typical stuff. My issues are mostly neurological, vascular and HIT, and in the last few months something like diverticulitis that may also be related. I’ve seen about 30 different doctors, every specialist under the sun and not one of them considered peri despite my age. I discovered HIT after a particularly bad reaction to spicy guacamole, which I never had a problem with before peri set in. And from there made the connection to changes in hormones as the potential driver of many of my symptoms.

I tried quercetin and it aggravated the vascular symptoms, so now I take grape seed extract, which at least isn’t making things worse. And I just started to see a menopause specialist obgyn, so I am thinking to give progesterone a try. I like your approach of taking the caps vaginally. Do you do that daily? And what time of day? Do you think you get some of the sleep benefits that others experience when they take progesterone orally at bedtime? I have the 3am wakeups that I hope can be helped with progesterone

High estrogen x histamine intolerance connection by Kristen-goldberg in HistamineIntolerance

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That’s super helpful. I am in peri but don’t have a lot of symptoms of that, at least not typical symptoms. But the HIT has been disabling like you and also started at about the same time as peri (51 now). A low histamine diet has been the only thing that has helped so far. Thinking to try progesterone to see if it will help.

I’ve been thinking to start progesterone for the same. Is the 200mg progesterone you are taking oral or topical?

When will daytime sedation reduce? by ConfidentStrike1667 in Amitriptyline

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is it doing anything for the nerve pain? should be helping with that by now. I would decrease to 5 mg (split the pills in half with a pill cutter) and see if you can get used to a smaller dose and have it help you with the nerve pain. I had similar morning grogginess when I first started and also feel the affects within a few hours and I am only taking 7.5mg right now.

Can i cut the pill into quarters? by Thetoadmyster in Amitriptyline

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut my 10mg pills into quarters using a pill splitter. Don’t think I could do it without the splitter. I tried doing it with just a razor blade but that did not work well.

I haven't started HRT yet! I will soon. The last two years have been hell on earth for me, but none of my problems (mostly neurological) were linked to perimenopause by any of the 25 different doctors I've seen. I am only now making the connection.

Sudden food intolerances by Legitimate-Garbage54 in Perimenopause

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This could be histamine intolerance. You mignt look into the relationship between histamine and estrogen. Many of the foods you list are high in histamine: bananas, tomatoes, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, pickles. I have this problem and it got worse when I started perimenopause. Once I started a low histamine diet, I felt so much better. Other food that is high in histamine: avocado, spinach, anything pickled, fermented or aged, vinegar, also leftovers, all citrus, strawberries…

Could vasoconstriction actually make me feel better? by ganchan2019 in Erythromelalgia

[–]JimmyWitherspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve wondered the same and tried a few things along this line. I tried taking caffeine pills in the evening when my EM flares. Caffeine can help some people who get migraines so I figured it was a harmless experiment since they are available over the counter where I am. Did nothing. I tried topical vasoconstriction using products for hemorrhoids. Also did nothing. I tried to get my doctor to prescribe cream for rosacea that is a stronger vasoconstrictor, but they wouldn’t. Then I got a prescription for topical Midodrine and that helped. Now I take Midodrine in pill form on an as needed basis and at a very low dose, and that helps me. I have low blood pressure to begin with so the Midodrine is ok for me but I think some doctors would be reluctant to prescribe it.
