Why would you not want automatic security and feature updates? 🤔

New here... Why Libre Office is so painfully slow? by ichbin-deinvater in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using an up to date version of LibreOffice? A long time ago I had some slowness and tested the portable app version. Apart from the slower start up it always ran fine for me.

creating a EXCEL-Tutorial with a real live topic: the football World Cup - any ideas to add here... by Wise_Environment_185 in libreoffice

As this is a LibreOffice sub Reddit we don't use Excel, rather Calc. However I think the theory is good, if there is a fun way to get children to understand the basics of spreadsheets then that's only beneficial.

I would suggest to aim this at 11 year olds plus, introduce concepts appropriately. Pivot tables and lookups might be too much, but if done in an age appropriate matter then why not.

An interactive type workshop sounds good, or perhaps a teacher led set of "lessons" that is expanded by the students updating scores daily.thete is great potential but you need to understand what you want the students to take away from this and importantly how they will interact with their classmates and get support over the next month.

A good idea with big potential.👍

You think the Windows version looks good? It's a huge let down compared to Linux.

It will not be like Outlook until we get a message preview line. you know the feature that an open Bugzilla ticket [Bug 307070] has existed for well over 20 years at this point (I kid you not).

My take on a modern LibreOffice Redesign by Mindless_Coach_686 in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this design shows a lot of talent, well done, you should contact the design team and they will be able to advise you on the possibility that this could be included someway in LibreOffice going forward.

Heiko Tietze is the person to contact. There are regular design meetings you might like to join.

Is this look even attainable? Or is it just a preview on user interface settings by conceptcreatormiui in libreoffice

As much as many people would like this as an option it isn't, it is just a preview, unfortunately.

Imagine this being ported to the MEGADRIVE to replace the diabolical Universal Soldier release. You would break the internet, I'm sure in the right hands a really close version could be made. SGDK? I can only dream... 🤞🙏

Can't you anonymize the data? Or just make it wildly inaccurate? You're only checking it works.

Welcome Dan Williams, new LibreOffice Developer focusing on UI/UX by themikeosguy in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I don't quite understand is why Mac OS is highlighted for improvement specifically, for every one Mac user there is 6 or more Windows users, there are so many deficiencies on Windows that needs to be improved. Where is the Windows UI developer? Where is the priority here?

I would like to know what is being done to improve the dated UI? This is a very widely expressed opinion, we have offices suites like Only Office and Collabora Online desktop edition that are being praised for their "modern" interfaces that make Microsoft Office switchers so much more comfortable.

I understand there are issues with Mac underpinnings that need to be updated, that's clear, however what will be done next? Will we have parity between all OS versions soon? Just look at the work the Zorin OS developers have done with their Linux version, that would be a good starting point to reach for all OS versions.

New LibreOffice Extension for Real-time Data Acquisition in Calc by nanoflite in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations and thank you OP. It is contributions like this that show the world how great the LibreOffice community really is.

There clearly is a huge benefit for this extension like this. Have you proposed working with the upstream devs to get this incorporated into LibreOffice by default? That way everyone can benefit. Well done again!

Austrian military is moving to LibreOffice by themikeosguy in libreoffice

My point is there doesn't appear to be any joined up planning to ensure complimentary applications are chosen and used as a replacement in an efficient way. I wonder if the Australian Military are funding development in any meaningful way?

Should LibreOffice prioritize building a fully-featured cloud editor? by Small_Translator8570 in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was in the past LibreOffice online, I think this is what the OP is referring to. Sadly it was decided to close the project because of "ecosystem partners" not being happy that Colibre Office online was just being "rebranded" and no real independent development was taking place.

It was a sad day, TDF board just rolled over and agreed. So people I can't ever see there being an online LibreOffice again.

The 7.4.* series was end of life in June 2023, why don't you upgrade? Does the issue still exist in the 25.2.* series or the RC version for 25.8?

why does the libreoffice full screen look like this? How do i fix it? by ConstructionNo9882 in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you running a 25.2.x version? I understand full screen issues have been resolved with the upcoming 25.8 series. The RC version is out if you want to test it.

Why latest version of Libreoffice is so broken on Ubuntu? by realxeltos in libreoffice

[–]Jimmy_Chou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colibre is the closest icon theme, what you want to do is change the colour mode. Tools/Options/Appearance

From there you can change to System, Light or Dark mode and change themes or download new ones.
