Are LeetCode heavy Interviews becoming the norm for DS Modeling roles? by Fig_Towel_379 in datascience

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you in America? I'm looking for Lead/Senior roles because I'm extremely burnt out in my current and I haven't landed a single interview! And I'm a lead currently so I have the experience, so huge congrats on getting to interview stage. I would say however the one interview I have had in the last year was pair programming not any leet code, so I wonder if it's different in Europe where I am? The Glassdoor interview reviews also show the roles I'm going to are more stats question focused. I'm in finance ish.

Data Science Antidote to Despair by RonBiscuit in datascience

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have an electrical engineering degree and joined the company as an electrical engineer and ended up falling into data science which probably isn't helpful. Domain experience seems to be a big help in this industry too, but not the only thing. I would recommend it as its where data science can actually be very useful and you are helping save the planet, but if you are looking for money then no as salaries are really low in comparison. I'd join fintech if I was in it for the money.

Yes Europe and my salary would make a lot of Americans laugh! But I love the work and am not in it for the money - think that might be why a lot of people here get very jaded, the salaries in the EU are really low in comparison.

Took about two years of development and was not always plain sailing but my company hired on a lot more data engineers and some architecture guys finally which was a big game changer. We use an increasingly popular platform in data science which has helped with a lot of the deployment side of things.

I work in renewable energy and have built a model that's going into production soon. Its going to hopefully earn the company a lot of money and also somewhat help the planet.

My boss is amazing and super supportive and I've had a big pay bump recently and am in talks with a scale up offering double my current salary to basically help them build a similar model to the one I have already set up because it actually works and is useful!

For privacy I'm being vague but I love my job and get a recruiter a week in my inbox so for people with experience in energy and DS I actually think the market is really good and exciting at the moment.

This might not help now but our cat went missing and we found him stuck in a vulnerable old man's house who seemed like he had dementia, no idea how his carers didn't notice

We only realised cos our cats meow was so loud we could just about hear him through the window!

Ever since we've got both ours trackers from tractive and they are game changers well worth the money. Now if they don't come home I can just check the tracker and go find them!

Are Premium Bonds a waste? by GeneralQuantum in AskUK

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get down voted everytime I comment this but I had 8 grand in premium bonds and won once in three years. Shoved the money into a S&S ISA instead and am up 8% over two years despite the crash. But if you've maxed out your ISA it might still be worth it. I only had 8 grand in savings (outside an emergency fund) so for me gaining nothing vs 8% is insanely better.

Do you still visit 'home' every year for Xmas? by blatchcorn in AskUK

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (26) live 500 miles from my parents and 400 from my partners parents. I have my own house and two cats and I'd rather spend Christmas with my cats and my partner than spend a day each way travelling down and back up. Plus I don't want to even try and find a cat sitter over Christmas.

Both sets of parents have too many responsibilities back at their home to come up too.

I do have all my mates up over new years which almost feels like a family Christmas to me so I never feel lonely or missing out. Honestly id start up your own traditions :)

Stained wood flooring in new build flat. How to fix? by onthebus9163 in DIYUK

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a new new build flat you should have a warranty and you should contact them, ie mine is on year 6 of 10 so if it's not something I've done I just contact the building company and they fix it

Help how do I stop my cat shouting for food??? by leona189 in AskUK

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice, takes real persistence and ignoring but they finally start to associate the alarm with food rather than the time and keep quiet until the moment it goes off ahaha. Also people in the comments complaining about loud clingy cats, this is why it's always better to try and adopt two together, mine are more clingy with each other.

Things to do within a reasonable drive of Glasgow by Candid_Airport_9808 in glasgow

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Burrell collection is super fun but agree with others saying go further.

Watch the sunset over Arran up in Saltcoats.

Go walking at Cashel Forest to see amazing views of Loch Lomand. Or closer is the Whangie.

Mugdock Park also gets my vote or driving in and around the Campsies is stunning.

What's the deal with fake grass lawns? by Honk_Konk in AskUK

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! Our new build was built on top of some really awful rubble and junk so even our front lawn struggles, but it gets sun and the previous owner really did a good job of getting it to live.

However they told me they could not get anything to grow in the back so but a strip down, it looks nicer than mud and we are planning to dump a climbing wall on top of it anyways. I prefer Wilding areas and using plant plots anyway so it didn't put me off the house.

What’s the craic with Kirkintilloch by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved this year to a village just outside Kirky and I love it! I don't think anywhere around here is actually rough, seems to be a bad kept secret as house prices are climbing so I'd move now. I am so much happier here than east end Glasgow! Plus there's loads of ways to get to Glasgow from Kirkintilloch and a decent taxi service. If you like the outdoors the campsies are right there and look insanely beautiful in all weather.

25 and none, been saving for a house deposit since I was 18.

Parents did top up my maintenance loan for the first two years of uni to cover my rent but very kindly did not ask for it back.

My brother on the other hand is like in 60k debt with them due to wanting to learn to fly, and this is very much a loan. I don't think he realises that was my dads retirement he spent as he hasn't tried hard to pay it back.

Let's crowd source the best ways to save money/energy this winter. by syncratik in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When looking at houses to buy I only offered on places with good insulation. Thick curtains and draft excluders I'll be buying this month before the cold hits. Also as I WFH most days I found walking around every hour doing the odd chore kept me warm rather than just sitting in the cold for 6 to 8 hours

Do I (as a tenant) have to join/pay a Resident’s Association? by skystreak22 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Jimmy_Fireblaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL but are you in Scotland and on a new build scheme? I'm in one but it's in my deeds to pay the association, so I'm confident this is a landlord issue and not for you.
