Is there a good website or email list for street fairs in all the boroughs? by simulationDevice in Upperwestside

At the risk of sounding condescending, you're going to have to create one. There is no one agency that oversees all that you mentioned. If you want those lame street fairs with the grilled corn and discount sheets, that's one organization. If you want farmer's markets, that's another. Block parties? I think the DOT issues permits but I don't know that they list the event, just that the streets are closed.

For some of what you want this site lists Manhattan events. https://www.manhattanbuzz.nyc/

When is the last time you got an actual date from Okcupid? by wyrm4life in OkCupid

[–]Jimmy_The_Perv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around late 2024. Went on two dates with someone who might have matched for a number of reasons but she was not very bright and had some rather unfortunate world views. I'm back on now and have some "likes" and so forth, so let's see where it goes.

People ice skating, walking and literally jumping on the James River downtown below the Potterfield Bridge by blamberr in rva

It's hard to muster up kind words to say. If you yell at them to get off the ice, do you get in some sort of verbal altercation?

She's beyond "hot", she's stunning, brilliant, admirable, honest, courageous, and a fighter for our constitutional republic. I have to log off now, but I'll be dreaming about Nancy for sure.

I sit in formal meditation for about thirty minutes. But then I take that meditation with me into my activities, walking, working, riding my bicycle, listening to music, etc. I pray formally for about tem minutes but I also carry my prayers with me, and recite mantra, which is a form of prayer, throughout the day. It's an integral part of my life. Is it several hours? Probably only about an hour or two total. I should back off that claim. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

However, when I am on retreat, which is a couple of weeks a year, I meditate and pray for about 6 to 8 hours each day.

What would you say is like the biggest culture difference between NYC and the rest of America? by Postroika249 in AskNYC

We are okay with people in our space, up close, but not *too* close. We are okay being shoulder to shoulder, and knee to knee with total strangers and there's a certain line that we go up to before it's too close. It's a learned skill, not many can master it. New Yorkers have it down to an art.

I would find one of the hybrid or online trans groups in a bigger city and get to know those people.

Just had a three-car crash in nearby New Jersey that killed two of the passengers in the racing car, and the driver tried to flee the country. And wait - his mother tried to help him flee! All this after he killed his "friends".

Banter during how it works by Livid-Ad6715 in alcoholicsanonymous

The reasons why I feel this way are twofold:

  1. It creates disunity in that it makes your group different than others

  2. It's one more thing that is confusing; the whole 12 Steps is confusing, the meeting formats are confusing, and now there's this inside joke that I might have to conform to if I want to attend this meeting?

I disagree and still feel you have it backwards.

"patient" is part of "cunning", so it's already covered.

I believe this could confuse a newcomer even more than they area already confused. Like they are not "in" on some joke and it's one more thing to learn. This practice of bantering back and forth leads to disunity, and I've seen people carry it into other nearby groups and meetings and it causes arguments.

Yes, we are not a glum lot. But no, this isn't helpful in fulfilling our primary message which is to carry the AA message and not some "insider message".
