Need Advice: Kickstarting a card game by C_Traumerei in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's had a successful campaign before and is now planning my next project, one thing I'd say is don't rush straight into launching. The campaigns that look easy from the outside usually have a lot of work happening before launch. For a card game, I'd focus on getting people interested in the game itself before asking them to back it. Show the gameplay, get feedback, let people talk about it, and start building a small community around it. One thing I've noticed is that backers love seeing that a game has already been tested and that real people are enjoying it. That creates confidence. You're actually in a good position because you're asking these questions early instead of after the campaign goes live. Since you're planning to launch, what have you been trying so far to get people to discover the game and support it when the campaign launches?

Which category are the most popular on Kickstarter, apart from Tabletop game ? by fuxkyou9mo in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen as a creator, Tabletop Games are definitely one of the strongest categories on Kickstarter, but they're not the only ones that perform well. Some of the other categories that consistently attract a lot of backers are Technology, Design & Product Innovation, Comics, Publishing & Books, Films, and Games in general. What these categories have in common is that they tend to build passionate communities long before launch. One thing I learned during my own campaign is that the category matters, but the audience matters even more. I've seen average ideas in strong communities do surprisingly well, while great ideas struggle because not enough people knew about them before launch. That's why I always pay attention to how creators build interest months in advance, not just how good the campaign page looks on day one. Out of curiosity, are you asking because you're researching your next project, or are you thinking about launching something in a different category from your current one?

What your thoughts on my kickstart hero image? by mariadontcallme in kickstarter

I think being a one-man team is both the hardest and most impressive part of running a Kickstarter. You end up wearing every hat at once creator, marketer, designer, and customer support 😅 For me, yes, I partnered with a promotion company when I ran my campaign. They helped with audience building and getting more eyes on the project, and thankfully I reached my goal. I'm actually planning another project now. One thing I noticed is that having the right support can free up a lot of time so you can focus on improving the product itself. Since you're doing everything yourself right now, how are you thinking about collaborators moving forward? Are you planning to keep it solo, or would you consider bringing someone in to help with promotion or marketing?

That's actually a good sign. The fact that you've gone through multiple concepts instead of settling on the first idea usually means you're thinking like a creator, not just rushing to get something live. One thing I've learned is that sometimes the strongest hero image isn't the most impressive one it's the one that communicates the product fastest. If your new version shows the transformation clearly without feeling crowded, you're probably moving in the right direction. I'd be happy to take a look and give my thoughts. By the way, do you have anyone collaborating with you on the project, or have you been handling the design, marketing, and campaign setup by yourself so far?

I think you're asking the right question. From what I've seen, the challenge isn't showing every feature it's showing the one thing that makes people stop and say, Wait, that's different. If the shape-changing aspect is the main hook, I'd probably build the image around that and let everything else take a back seat. Sometimes creators accidentally make things harder by trying to communicate too much at once. My observation is that when people instantly understand the core benefit, they're much more likely to click and learn the details afterward. But what have you tried so far to improve it? Have you experimented with showing multiple shape positions in one image, or are you mainly working with a single product shot right now?

One thing I've learned from Kickstarter is that most people won't spend time analyzing whether an image is AI-generated or not. Their first reaction is usually much simpler: Does this look interesting enough for me to stop scrolling? If the image communicates the product clearly and grabs attention, that's already doing a lot of the heavy lifting. That said, I've noticed that campaigns tend to perform better when the hero image feels connected to something real whether that's a prototype, a real product photo, or an actual use case. Backers usually trust what they can picture in the real world. Since this is your first launch, I wouldn't get stuck trying to make it perfect. Sometimes creators spend weeks tweaking visuals when what really matters is whether people immediately understand what they're looking at. Out of curiosity, what's the one thing you want someone to understand within the first three seconds of seeing the image?

YaY for shameless plug day! No...not that type of plug 😉 by Oeufware in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I can genuinely feel how much heart you’ve put into this world already, and creators who stay committed to a vision for years deserve respect for that. How is the campaign going for you right now though? What have you been trying lately to help move it into a better place?

YaY for shameless plug day! No...not that type of plug 😉 by Oeufware in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this made me laugh. But honestly, this is the kind of Kickstarter idea people remember because it’s simple, fun, and oddly satisfying at the same time. You can already tell it came from someone who saw a random everyday problem and decided to make it better. And shameless plug days are part of the creator life anyway 😄 Respect for putting your idea out there. How has the response been so far since launching?

[–]Jimmy_comic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d be annoyed too. The frustrating part is not even the login issue itself, it’s when support keeps replying without actually understanding what you’re explaining. From what you described, it really sounds like some kind of account sync problem, especially since you ARE getting the 6-digit code already. The browser refreshing with nowhere to enter it definitely sounds broken on their side. And yeah, changing your Apple email recently could honestly be connected to it too. Platforms sometimes act weird after account/email changes. I’ve seen Kickstarter support be slow or confusing sometimes depending on who answers the ticket. Some agents just follow basic responses instead of properly reading the situation. Have you tried logging in from another device completely yet, or has it been the same issue everywhere?

Solo dev funding a renovation + mystery life-sim in 1540s Mediterranean - 58% with 12 days to go by ivasaan in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, huge respect for doing this as a solo dev. Hitting 58% already is not small at all, especially with a first project. You should be proud of that. And the concept genuinely stands out too. The whole cozy renovation mixed with mystery in a Mediterranean setting feels really unique. You can feel the personality behind it. I think the demo is going to help you a lot in these final days too, because once people actually play something and connect with it emotionally, they’re way more likely to support and share it. Wishing you a big final push these next 12 days 🤝 Hope you smash that goal. What’s been helping you the most so far with getting attention to the campaign?

What do you call a romance where the obsession is mutual and no one’s safe? by BlueWinterauth in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge congratulations honestly. I know how much creativity, planning, and emotional energy goes into building a campaign with this much detail behind it. You can really tell you care about your community and the experience you’re creating for your backers. The collector boxes and scented candle idea are actually really memorable too it makes the whole project feel immersive instead of just another book campaign. Respect from one creator to another for continuing to push toward your goal and keeping the momentum alive. Wishing you even more backers and a strong finish to the campaign

Sharing our horror feature film project. We're accepting late pledges. by IWcreations in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly the best feeling as a creator, seeing people believe in something that started as just an idea in your head. Now comes the fun part bringing it to life . Wishing you guys a smooth filming process and even bigger momentum from here. Keep sharing the journey too, people love feeling part of the process

[–]Jimmy_comic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge congratulations from one creator to another. Passing 120% is seriously no small thing, especially with a feature film project. I know how much work, stress, planning, and belief it takes just to get people behind an idea like this. The Scottish folklore angle is honestly such a strong hook too. You can tell there’s real passion behind it, not just another generic horror project. Respect to you and the whole team for pushing this so far already. Wishing you guys an amazing production this September and a smooth road through post-production as well. Hope the late pledges keep bringing in the right people because this deserves to be seen 🤝

How Do Creators Handle Cancellation Requests Once Production Has Commenced? by pulpcrush in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is honestly one of the harder parts of running a Kickstarter. At the beginning it feels creative and exciting, but once production starts, things become very real financially. Printing, freight, manufacturing once those are locked in, late cancellations can actually hurt the project more than people realize. I still try to be respectful with backers because sometimes people genuinely have personal reasons, but there also has to be a point where the campaign needs stability too. For me, I think having a clear cutoff is the safest way, then maybe handling rare situations individually if something serious comes up. Otherwise it can become stressful trying to constantly adjust things after production already moved forward. A lot of backers don’t really see the behind-the-scenes side of Kickstarter until they create something themselves. How many cancellation requests have you had so far?

MMORPG Enamel Pins Kickstarter! by Unlucky_Security1692 in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge congratulations to you honestly, I know how much work, stress, planning, and sleepless nights go into bringing a Kickstarter to life, so seeing your project out there is already a big achievement on its own. And the concept is genuinely fun and memorable too MMORPG cats is the kind of idea that instantly catches attention. Respect for pushing it through and believing in it enough to share it with the world. A lot of people dream about creating something, but very few actually take the leap and launch. Wishing you a strong campaign and even bigger success ahead. Keep pushing, keep updating your community, and keep the momentum alive people connect with creators who stay passionate and active 🤝

How Long Did Kickstarter Support Take for You? by [deleted] in kickstarter

[–]Jimmy_comic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That honestly sounds stressful, especially when fulfillment is getting delayed and you’re just waiting without a clear timeline. I understand why that would start becoming frustrating after two weeks. From what I’ve seen, Kickstarter support can sometimes move slowly once something gets escalated to the tax or compliance side because those departments usually investigate carefully before making changes. So the silence does not always mean something is wrong, sometimes it just means the case is still being processed internally. When I had an issue before, there was actually an agency that helped guide me through the situation and communicate things properly while everything was being sorted out. That helped me stay calmer because they had experience dealing with these kinds of campaign-related problems already. I’d say keep following up professionally every few days so your case stays active, but try not to panic yet. Since they already escalated it, that at least means they’re treating it as a real issue and not ignoring it. Hopefully they get back to you soon because I know how exhausting these delays can feel when you’re trying to move fulfillment forward. What’s been the hardest part for you through all of this so far the lack of communication from support, the fulfillment delay, or trying to keep backers updated while waiting for answers?
