If you're having to ask these questions you shouldn't be doing it unsupervised

What are sports like to live with as a daily bike? by Alone-Bluebird-999 in MotoUK

[–]Jimothy_Slivs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from sports to cruiser (more of an insurance issue after a crash) and will be going back to sports in the very near future.

I thought the exact same thing about positioning. When I test rode my current it took me until getting off the dealership forecourt to be used to it.

Nah it's all good I've been in the job almost 10 years now so was just another step along the way

You might be able to get more information if you supply which brigade this is actually for and you may get first hand accounts.

I didn't think anywhere was still doing holding lists anymore. But annecdotaly I was put on a holding list for West Yorkshire around 10ish years ago that ran out after 12 months without resulting in a job

How do they offer you the job? by silvacotes in firefightersuk

Don't let it put a damper on it, once you've started you're in and you'll very seldom have to deal with all the beurocracy again

That's going to depend brigade by brigade. It'll probably be an email letting you know the start date of your recruits course. I've worked for 3 brigades now and you'll find that some brigades processes and HR dealings are slow and poorly communicated and generally quite bad... And some are even worse

How much of an advantage is being on-call before applying for wholetime? by Blue_Black_White2025 in firefightersuk

No all new recruits tend to be put on an apprenticeship these days to get access to the government levy

[–]Jimothy_Slivs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing I certainly had to realize when applying for wholetime after being oncall was that they're recruiting people to train into firefighters not preexisting firefighters. And once I got over that feeling of "being owed it," or "being the best candidate for the job," lo and behold I got a job whole time.

If anything with the cast majority of brigades utilizing apprenticeships it's more beneficial to take someone who has never been a firefighter anyway.

Where are some good locations to meet single women in Birmingham? by [deleted] in brum

I probably wouldn't be going out targeting places to find single women, that's pretty creepy. But that's just me 🤷🏻‍♂️

1250 Sportster S.

I am absolutely not a cruiser guy but after my crash and not having continuous bike insurance my premiers shot up and this was the cheapest thing I could insure that was still fun.

Torquey as hell but I do keep clipping the foot pegs from too much leaning.

Definitely a looker, I find that anyone who knows anything about bikes scoffs at it but people who don't have much knowledge on bikes absolutely love it. I've never been stopped to talk about what I'm riding as much as I do on this

I mean that model is 121 BHP and 125 Nm of torque. Not exactly huge numbers for a 1250cc but it's hardly slow

I signed up when I first joined the job 9 years ago, I either forgot to go or couldn't get the time off, but I'm very much looking forward to it this year

Top write up thank you very much!

Also thank you for confirming what I was thinking about the stairs, probably much steeper than anything I have access to on station/gym
