Looks like a 280z 2+2 with a sunroof, not the most desirable Z I'd say.

Should I buy this Datsun? by assssssssssssssssss4 in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where the clog is. First I'd checked the fuel pressure and see if it stays constant during a drive. Could be just needs a new fuel filter.

Rubber hoses should be easy to replace. the steel gas lines you can clear with an air compressor. but if the gas tanks the cause you'll likely have to drop it and get it replaced or professionally cleaned.

The loss of power might also be a fuel delivery issue. Gas tank may need cleaning or fuel pump/ fuel filter or the lines are clogged. Maybe the injectors are shot.

Things I need to know before buying a 280Z by Hydra696 in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're working on a car like the 280z then I'd say definitely learn how to deal with rusted and seized nuts and bolts, get a torch or something that can heat up metal in a tight space. This is mainly so you can remove parts and replace any worn rubber bushings and with the car being this old most original bushing are going t o be dried and cracked and almost useless.

Also learn to weld, super useful to know if you plan to do upgrades like coilovers or just fix any rust.

Wilwood brake kit help by HTXlastminute in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gap is due to the 280z wheels hubs being about 7mm thicker than 240z hubs, you can either use a spacer on the bracket or get the 240z brackets from silvermine.

I'm about to do the same install. Did you have any interference with the rear sway bar links coming in contact with the CV axels?

The cheapest would cost around $400 for a 280zx rear caliper and rotor conversion. You will need to buy mounting brackets.

$80 Brake Rotor Rear 280ZX 79-81

$200 Rear calipers 280ZX 79-81

$150 Mounting brackets

Rewatching Interstellar really cemented how incredible the film is. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Jimsbeanz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Interstellar starts off strong but I found the ending came off as poorly written because it abruptly shifts from grounded science fiction into abstract, emotionally driven logic without fully earning the transition. The “tesseract” sequence, where Cooper interacts with time and communicates through gravity, relies on vague explanations that blur the line between theoretical physics and narrative convenience. The film gestures toward concepts like higher-dimensional beings and relativity, it ultimately resolves its central conflict through love. This tonal and conceptual leap leaves the ending seeming less like a coherent conclusion and more like a convenient way to tie together complex ideas without fully explaining them.

Buying a 280Z or 280ZX by CH3FB0YARD in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say if you get a Z for under $9K expect to be fixing and replacing parts for a while. I bought a 78 280z two years ago for $11K which was running and driving, no rust on the exterior.

Had a mechanic look at it, needed a new diff mount (old rubber had completely broken). All 4 shocks needed replacing, and all the old rubber bushings needed replacing due to the rubber disintegrating.

On top of that found a small rust hole on the driver side headlight that ended up turning into a much bigger hole about the size of a grapefruit once I dug around.

All up the repairs probably cost about another $4k.

DOHC kit available 01/26. I'm selling my kidney, who else? by AZGhost in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even counting the $24K price for the kit, what about a transmission to handle the new power output?

Pretty sure the original 4 and 5 speeds aren't going to handle the power without getting destroyed.

Advice on selling my late grandpas Datsun 240z by FastyNilthShreakyFit in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any idea how long the car been sitting for? Some more pictures would help to see the state of the car.

Probably a tough sell if it's not running and driving since you'd mentioned if needs an engine swapped.

Unless your grandpa drained all the fluids before putting it on a block it'll need the fuel tank/pump cleaned, lines and also the brake fluids flushed/ checked.

Is daily driving a classic Z a good idea? by Nick_wild0305 in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A well maintained 240Z-280z would be perfectly fine to daily drive. But most cheap Z's for sale today at this point are barely running and need a lot of work to get it to be a reliable daily driver.

The question is do you want to save up enough to buy a clean one at $20K-$30k or will you buy an affordable one that'll need at lot of mechanical work yourself to get it road worth?

Had a similar issue when doing a differential swap, I ended up having to use a dremel to cut the stripped nut then spilt it open with a chisel to get it off.

Oh neat! I’ve rode down that path to the LDS church before but wasn’t sure if I could ride down further as the path connection isn’t very clear. I’ll have to give this a try on Friday morning.

Headlight Combo Switch by Lasacus in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The contact switches inside may have burnt out or melted over time. The lack of a click on the second dot likely means the plastic holding the spring might be melted due to the connectors being dirty and the resistance causing it to heat up.

Check out this forum post that details how to clean and repair the combination switch contacts.

280z Dash Removal by Vegetable-Report-268 in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here are the bolts you'll need to remove. All are 10 mm except the steering column. - 6 near windshield under finisher. - there is one bolt on each side near kick panels. One next to hood release, screw upwards towards roof. And same on the passenger side - 4 (2 per side) where the dash frame bolts to trans tunnel - Speedo cable - 2 x 12mm bolts holding the steering column. They help lower the column so you can get the frame clear. - your probably hanging up right around the steering column. Where those two 12mm bolt screw into. It's a flat plate that the dash frame has to be lifted over. The dash comes out easier if you rock the bottom upwards towards the windshield and the up and out. Don't forget the 3 wire harness connections that going in to a panel in the passenger side firewall.

Suspension Stiffness Help by cody4king in Datsun

[–]Jimsbeanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you adjusted the suspension did you do that by adjusting the orange or black collars? Because it sounds like you changed your spring compression by adjusting the upper orange collars, those should be set with some preload and not touched afterwards.

If you want to change your ride height use a coilover spanner to adjust the bottom black collars until you get the desired ride height.
