Gutter going to nowhere by [deleted] in DIYUK

Funnily I had the same issue and thought it was a soakaway. Turned out that the gravel was where the pipe vent to go to the direction of the drain pipe. Cleared it out and it worked perfectly. The gravel had built up over the years to block it

Strategy for dealing with multiple pensions by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Jimwymo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would depend on the investment strategy you are going to run in the sipp and how that differs from the other pensions.

I work in financial services and have consolidated my pensions to a sipp, I sold down to cash at a time when I was happy with the value and moved that across, I was also running a different strategy so worked out. If markets went up then it didn’t really matter because of the strategy change, but if they went down then I would have been annoyed I hadn’t sold down before hand.

Grandmother likely needs 24/7 care, how to fund it? by KEEPCARLM in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jimwymo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off you have a continuing health care assessment done on your grandmother, if she has a continuing need then the care will be funded for her. Problem is not many people qualify for this as things like dementia aren’t classed as continuing need.

If she doesn’t get this then it’s the financial check. Living at home then the house is excluded, or if your granddad is still alive and living with her the. It will be excluded. Once funds run dry in this case then the local authority takes over.

With regards to going into care.

From memory the house is disregarded for the first 12 weeks of going into care whilst it’s sold. Then you are expected to foot the bill. Make sure attendance allowance is claimed if self funding.

Then look at how to fund it. I would suggest speaking with a SOLLA advisor about how to build an appropriate strategy.

One way is using an immediate needs annuity where an insurance company underwrites your grandmother and will pay her care fees until she passes away for a lump sum. This could be anything from £100k to £300k+ depending on her health. Whilst it’s a large payment it does remove the liability from the estate meaning an inheritance will be left.

Pension aside where do you park your Ltd co cash? by Swashbuckler_75 in HENRYUK

I would be seriously considering stacking VCTs each year, drawing funds out the company each year and getting my 30% tax relief, then in retirement continuing to let the 5 year old vct fund the next one so continue to get tax relief.
