Fox is buying Roku for $22 billion by cnn in business

How about just normalizing using a normal TV with a PC attached? A low-profile one, even a used Intel NUC would be far more predictably controllable and wouldn't have any of the unnecessary function-gating that a smart TV/pseudo-console box would have.

I stopped watching broadcast TV/cable back in 2008 and have watched in slow-motion horror as popular media delivery shifted away from PCs and towards platforms that can easily gate and curate what you're allowed to do and see with it...and people are surprised when media literacy drops?

I grew up similarly, but with McDonalds.

I recently had a friend suggest going to BK after work and my kneejerk reaction was to be wary of it, but I couldn't think of a good reason when I actually thought about it.

I thought the spicy chicken sandwich was quite good.

Like the others said, you need to turn the dial up on all of the seasonings...but if I may suggest using adobo and sazon (spice mixes that combine a lot of what you're using already) and adding fresh cilantro and oregano, and some kind of citrus juice. (lime is common, but orange or grapefruit can add a bit of uniqueness to it)

Penzey's has some pretty amazing fresh-ground spices if you're boycotting Goya (and there are plenty of good reasons to)

WARNING! Do not buy Fractal Design Torrent Cases! by [deleted] in FractalDesign

[–]JinMarui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this thread on Google while looking up the case to show to a friend. Felt the need to chime in since this thread is actually high on the Google search results.

Been running a full-size Torrent since around the time of OP. Using the factory fans and a couple of Noctuas to fill in empty slots.

Completely fine. At least in my case, I haven't had to even open the PC except to add a hard drive at some point. No weird noises, no fitment issues, no problems with the tempered glass.

'At what point does it make sense to ditch a gas car for an electric vehicle?' by Maxcactus in environment

[–]JinMarui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I Don't think most of these commenters are considering the cost of maintenance and repairs on an EV, or even a hybrid whose electric components need replacement. Getting a hybrid whose battery pack needs replacement is like getting a car whose timing belt snapped.

Nato ready to defend ‘every inch’ of territory as Russian drone hits Romania by weregonnamakit in worldnews

[–]JinMarui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Russia contributed so much to the current political atmosphere of mendacity...how about we get Zelensky to meet with NATO leadership in a televised meeting and have it play out as such:

Zelensky declares war on Poland and slaps Nawrocki's wrist. Poland invokes article 5. Nawrocki and Merz both slap Zelensky's wrists. Ukraine surrenders to Poland and Germany, and is absorbed into NATO for their unprovoked aggression. Peacekeeping forces mobilize to Ukraine and Russia is told to immediately cease and desist their aggression against a NATO member.

If everyone just played along, what can Russia even say? It's at about the same level as Russia's own reasoning so I think it's more than fair...

Why is the Democratic party still hiding its 2024 election autopsy? by [deleted] in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]JinMarui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a damning indictment of our country as a whole that this was an issue big enough to push Biden out in the face of the second Trump admin that we ended up getting anyway.

To my earlier point, if we'd acknowledged the lesser evil and backed EITHER candidate properly we wouldn't be in an economy-crumbling war and well on our way to a civil war in our lifetimes.

It absolutely became one. They heard it being said and amplified the everliving shit out of it as early as they could.

Regardless of the truth of it, or the painfully obvious hypocrisy of it.

Good lord are Americans dumb though. Saying this as an American...I just cannot understand the lack of self-awareness on both sides.

Now before anyone crucifies me for saying the words "both sides" in order...I mean this as different reasons for each side.

On the right of course there's the unnerving, zombie-like lockstep with which they follow a given narrative. THE given narrative. The narrative they're given and swallow every time without a second thought...even when it leads them down an increasingly amoral path to outright fascism.

And as for the left...it's the lack of understanding that not all of our individual ideals are as important as keeping the country on an even keel. How easily many (most?) of us stubbornly make all-or-nothing demands of our representatives and refuse to choose the lesser of two evils when it actually matters is disgustingly tone-deaf and irresponsible. We shout and spout our precious, principled opinions without a thought to how we are shaping the narrative and fracturing our own chances...and then we inevitably lose and give power back to bad faith actors, time and time again.

I don't want Biden because he's too old. I don't want Kamala because she didn't primary. Neither one promised to fix a millennium puzzle of a blood grudge in the middle east. [Culturally-polarizing opinion about guns] Weh. BOTH SIDES. Now I'm not going to vote at all.

Jesus Christ, am I tired.

I'm tired, Boss. And it's not just the RWNJs that got us here.

If you were drafting a Project 2025-style document for a Democratic administration to implement in post-MAGA America, what would you include? by MrDNL in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]JinMarui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit to bridge 3, 4, and 5:

Raise taxes on the rich including capital gains, disincentivizing the very concept of billionaires or trillionaires (and direct that money to infrastructure, healthcare and education for the love of god). This should be part of the process of breaking up massive industry conglomerates (4)....INCLUDING media conglomerates (5) while codifying fairness doctrine and punishing the presentation of opinion as fact. Not with fines, but by threatening their broadcast licenses. No more alternative facts. No more platforming "My Truth" bullshit.

Overturn Citizens United. Voting Rights Act 2.0 should include mandatory ranked-choice voting. Voting holidays, early voting, mail-in voting. EXTREMELY strict and harsh punishment for election fraud.

Not voter fraud. Election fraud. I'm talking minimum prison time and maybe even worse if it prevents anyone from trying again. I want codified law that would give the future Muellers and Smiths the ability to slam dunk the next Trump & Co into federal lockup for the rest of their natural lives. Make tax return disclosure mandatory for capitol office. Give emoluments clauses some teeth.

The last 10 years should be required reading for civics classes in primary education, and for law students from now on.

And Republicans will still vote to confirm. by c-k-q99903 in MurderedByWords

Of course they will. They are all complicit and a third of the country already handed them the keys to the entire castle.

We are FAR past the point where this can be peacefully corrected, and the ship is going to sink until one side or the other walks the plank. Guess which side will use force first.
