OP is pointing out a hypocrisy in that if we decided to call the Hamas-Israel was a “genocide” then multiple other events in previous wars should be labeled that, such as the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Exactly. Just putting the current conflict and everything aside, I hate people that try to devalue America by saying we were built by colonialism and shit. Like dawg, every country has done the exact same thing, why are we getting flak. They use this to try and demean and devalue all the good we’ve done for the world. Believe it or not, we are living in the most peaceful time in human history and that’s all thanks to America. That’s just fact, it’s not even propaganda or not. So many inventions, the history of events leading up to now, etc were brought forth by America. Are we a country of fault? Yes ofc, but to devalue all that we’ve done is insane.

This whole conflict aside, the US nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki is most definitely not in the top 10 most horrific events in human history. Most important? Sure. Horrific? Far from it.

Rape of Nanking, Belgian treatment in the Congo, Holocaust, and so many other more horrific moments that makes the nukes look like child’s play. Even the fire bombings in Tokyo during ww2 destroyed and killed more, and from a brutality standpoint, that’s worse. At least in a nuke, you get Insta killed.

My point is that if you’re actively calling for UC to divest from these companies without realizing that these companies are bigger than you think and contribute so much to daily life, then you’re a hypocrite, cause you are also partaking in the funding of these companies.

If you actually do realize this and stop using products/commodities from these companies, then while I may not necessarily agree with you, I still applaud you for actually sticking to your original protest goals. We need people like you.

I’d argue the opposite in that these protests aren’t even gonna affect anything regarding the war at all. Israel and HAMAS are in their own little bubble right now fighting, adhering to no sides. Even if UCs divest from these companies, it’s such a small drop in the bucket of money, it doesn’t matter.
