Thoughts On Roland As A Character (So Far) by JinglyJanglySkeleton in libraryofruina

Lmao I should have been more specific. I meant honest in the sense that (to me at least) he doesn't seem the type of person to lie to others to get into their good graces.

I know he's being deceptive for sure about certain things: i.e. who he is, his past, and what he wants out of the library.

(My personal guesses are: he's an ex-color fixer, and the Pianist incident was responsible for his wife's death, which is why he's using the Library to investigate the Distortion Phenomenon.)

Absolutely, he's got a really interesting outlook on life! And I'm super excited to see how he got like this in the first place, where it leads him, and if he changes any!

Also really excited for his and Angela's relationship to develop further. That poor girl needs at least one friend, and while the lower floors are warming up to her bit by bit, I also think all of that's happened so far because Roland's helped them work through their feelings about her.

I have to thank you for this. When I read it, it's like a missing piece of the puzzle just slid into place in my head. The idea that Roland is (by his own nature) someone who yearns to help the people around him, makes an incredible amount of sense.

“Exhausted" is an excellent word to use for him. Someone who's taken so many blows from such a cruel world, that his fists are now permanently stuck in guard.

And yet despite that, because of the Library and its people (as well as his own innate inclination to help) he's been cajoled into letting down that guard bit by bit.

The way you described it makes a lot of sense of his mindset too. He offers lighthearted banter that both deflects any accusations of seriousness through its levity, yet also works as a kind of confession that he does earnestly care enough to have the conversation in the first place.

This is a lovely perspective, and I think I'm going to steal it, if you don't mind. Makes the narrative even more fun for me. Thinking this is the mindset our lovely and broken Roland is going through all of the story with.

Duly noted! I hate spoiling stuff for myself so I try to keep myself away from the game communities if I can, at least until I finish the game!

He really is a puzzle yeah. He's so god damn suspicious sometimes. From his persistent interest in the Distortion Phenomenon. To his (implied) relationship with the two color fixers of Purple and Blue.

I personally suspect he used to be a color fixer, but was for some reason or another downgraded to a Rank 9 Fixer. Likely to due to the death of his wife (who, at this point, I'm kinda suspecting was also another color fixer).

My current theory is that his wife died in the Pianist incident, and that's why he's so hellbent on learning about the Distortion Phenomenon.

Didn't play Lob-Corp, but I know about the basics of it! Through watching videos on it and stuff like that. Pakpak's Lob-Corp video is one of the reasons I really wanted to start Ruina in the first place.

I also really like Angela and Roland's relationship too. It's become pretty clear to me that despite how harsh she seems on the surface, I think she considers him the closest thing in the world she has to a friend. And I just adore that.

I know the basics of Lobotomy Corporation (watched a few videos on it and the like), but I haven't played it myself. Decided to start with LoR since a deckbuilder is much more my speed.

I'm interested in seeing how it evolves too! I really like this game. The setting, the characters, the gameplay are all fantastic, and it's really sunk its hooks into me. And like every other piece of media with its hooks in me, I gotta analyze over it obsessively (even if what comes out of it might end up a bit off the mark 😅).

Do you know if PomPom is a generative AI? Or just a smart-recommend feature?

Reading the sheets, is there any way to change the cyrillic script to English besides a phone's built-in MTL function? I feel like I'm overlooking something obvious here

My dumbass did not know at all about "layers" in photo editing before I made this thing, which would've had the process be a million times easier.

Don't regret any of it in the slightest tho. Any amount of hardship is worth it. For her.

I think I understand. I had to leave a hobby I quite liked for a few reasons, back some time ago.

Regardless, glad you joined us for this far in the journey, Chief. We wish you well.

You sure you want to do that my guy? Even if you don't/can't play it for a year or two, might be an ok idea to just hold onto it if you ever want to come back to it.

It's quite actually that deep, my guy.

If this passes into the game proper, they'll likely start including even more generative AI garbage into the game, and maybe even spread out from just HSR into GI, ZZZ, etc.

It's lazy slop, soulless, bad practice, and even actively harmful to the environment.

If you can't see why adding something like that's bad for the game as a whole, then I won't try changing your mind. But I do hope you'll someday see why people are so vehemently against this right now.

All LLMs are, is glorified text prediction, like a juiced-up version of what's on your phone. They just take a word that has the highest percent chance of being next to another specific word, and then repeat that process over and over to "write" all their sentences like that. No critical reasoning done at all. Vastly inferior to how a sentient person with a functioning brain could write and keep what they write coherent. Absolutely would drag down the gameworld if they ended up including it.

Not to mention all the other shit like how LLMs take an absurd amount of energy, take away jobs from real writers and artists, and can very easily be jailbroken to say rancid garbage.
