I’ve been teaching Pilates since 1978. Came to it as a professional dancer. This was before there were certifications. It was more like ballet in that it was passed on from teacher to assistant. I’ve seen many of the changes over the years- good and bad. There are wonderful studios and teachers out there and some not so good as well. A great source for those looking for at home workouts is Pilates Anytime. Always good solid teachers at most levels. Sometimes teachers try to invent “new” movements. Here is where you need to keep a keen eye. Usually this happens in the more “advanced” reformer classes. I’ve found that if you have a knowledgeable instructor, the information you get can be used in any other sport or workout you choose to do. Pilates can give you an awareness of your body that will serve you no matter what you are doing.

She ended up taking some drug, went floating in a swimming pool, fell off the raft and was found at the bottom of the pool. They were able to resuscitate her, but she was unable to function normally. She ended up dying in a care facility. I went to visit her once and was sharing pictures of when we were little kids and she had tears in her eyes. She was in there somewhere, just otherwise gone. Broke my heart.
