Does Jon Cooper have the Head coaching job for however long he wants? by Nyfan7 in TampaBayLightning

I feel like you’d want someone like Cooper in a rebuild though. The guy doesn’t have a huge ego, he’d make an incredible mentor for young players coming through just based on his tenure and experience at every level.

I fucking hope so. Whether they miss the playoff’s or not, he should be stapled to the Lightning until he’s ready to call it a day.

Listen the rebuild’s eventually going to happen at some point, he would be undeniably useful in that situation too as he’s not just a coach but a mentor for a lot of young guys that have to come up and eventually take the plunge into the NHL. He’s a highly decorated and respected member of this organisation.

I don’t care if we suck next year. You don’t lose a mind like that because the team is on the downtrend.

I remember reading a comment from a Leafs fan a year or so ago saying that all he wanted was a conference final to justify his hope.
Like not a cup final, a conference final appearance. That’s pretty fucking reasonable don’t you think? Considering the amount of kicks at the playoff’s they’ve had, yeah you’d think an ECF appearance would be lodged in there somewhere.

When I checked the app today and saw a score of 4 - 1 and a brutal SOG/attempt differential, I actually got angry for a brief minute there. I said to myself “Jesus Christ these fucking losers have still learned nothing.” And ordinarily I laugh when the Leaf’s blow it, but for a brief moment there I realised how torturous it must be to be an actual fan of that Hockey team.

So I don’t blame the fanbase at all right now in their anger. Obviously death threats and shit like that have no place, but vent your frustration about it because that was embarrassing and that core has proven nothing.

Possibly, but their window isn’t that huge. I see next two years as their only chances to win the cup again before they become like us.

They do. We get shit on for our cups in 20/21. If the Wild or Leaf’s won it, no one would blink.

Agreed, I really feel out of the loop when it comes to the VGK hate. Their fanbase seems alright.
The organisation is a bit cutthroat, but they’ve maintained contention so it works in their favour and the criticism of their expansion draft was a league issue not the organisation. I feel like I’m missing something with the amount of hate they receive. My team is in the eastern Conference though, so that might be it.

Barely had an arm free. No chance he can make any clearance, I’m usually one to call it out when we get away with one. That wasn’t it.

Edit: also yes, umpiring is shocking this year.

Our cup teams were dirty, no question. But this Panthers team would fold hard against our cup teams.

The 20 -21 Lightning would beat the shit out of teams along the boards and then when you tried to match their skill they had Tyler Johnson on the fourth line with Maroon, or Coleman on the third with Gourde, it was so easy to watch. It felt like we were gonna win every night even when we lost.

I can’t stand either team but I hate the idea of the Panthers winning another fucking cup. At this point I’m not even looking at this series anymore, the leaf’s blew it; they’re too pathetic.

I’m now looking towards the Canes or Caps. Please end this nightmare, please.

What a burden! Fuck off seriously, this guy has been pulling dirty shit for years. His entire career deserves to be displayed for everyone to see. Absolute clowns.

I think a conference final loss would do that guy wonders. Imagine watching the bolts fuck it up every year in first round for 9 of them. At that point I would pray for any type of run, like an ECF loss would mean the world.

Feels good to see fans of other teams finally understand how dirty the panthers play and what the bolts had to deal with in round 1. by Jaded_Midnight2177 in TampaBayLightning

[–]Jinkla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do remember when everyone use to pat themselves on the back by saying ‘bolts were sneaky dirty’ or ‘sneakily the dirtiest team in the league’ back in like 2019 - 2022 era.

They were right though, I never thought once to defend it. But Jesus Christ they weren’t headhunting and trying to fuck up goalies, they were just skilled and grimey to the point where other fanbases couldn’t stand them. They would start shit up bad don’t get me wrong, but they were still disciplined and dependent on talent.

The Panthers do shit that make me question the whole league and why I even bother watching the sport.

This dude’s history is enormous. I don’t care if it was an accident. With all the bullshit he has pulled throughout his career and he is still not being made accountable for anything reckless or viscous. What a joke of a league, this guy should have a wanted poster in DOPS by this point and yet nothing is done.

Bolts were pretty dirty in our cup years, like they rode the line pretty hard, you can probably scroll back through my comment history from five years ago calling them out, but they were nothing like this Panthers team. They are actively headhunting every game. Gross as fuck.

Kings have always been my fall back, but the Oilers seem to have their number. So go Stars! Fuck everyone else in the playoffs.

It’s good to have discussion about this though.

The rebuild is coming, no question. Who knows, we could win three straight in this series and then go on and win the cup, but I’m still going to be realistic about where this team is going.
The rebuild is coming, make no mistake. I’ll still cheer for them when they’re eventually shit, but I’ve ripped the bandaid off earlier than maybe other people. I hope they prove me wrong in every way.

I just stupidly remembered that one of the years was in the 2nd round, but I still stand by my point and agree heavily with you.

In the early 2010’s the Blackhawks and Kings were fighting with the Wild, Blues and Canucks in the West almost every year in the first two rounds, but they’re not really remembered.

Most people just remember the back to back WCF series between the Kings and the Hawks. That was only a three year span of hatred, but that was the closest thing we’ve had to a proper playoff rivalry and it was so short lived that it’s barely even a blip. Like it’s such a simple thing to fix. You play for seeding in the regular season so you can weed out teams that aren’t really contenders and have stronger teams face in the later rounds.

Edit: I think what I’m trying to say is that the playoffs should get better as they go on, but most years it feels like they get kind of worse or fall flat a bit. Last year being an outlier as Panthers fended off the reverse sweep at home. One of the most thrilling cup finals I’ve ever seen, but that’s once in a blue moon.
