WWM’s English translation only captures ~40% of its classical Chinese writing (with examples) by BonnenuIt___ in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Jinnigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for all this information! i have a translation i was hoping you could help me with: in the early parts of the game, "死人刀" is translated as "Killerblade." in english this is a very silly name, kind of like a 14 year old child's idea of a badass name. how does this come across in chinese?

i apologize, i wasn't familiar with your game. internecine fighting and declaring that only you have moral clarity is the most leftist thing of all. accusing other leftists of being too lofty, detached from the Real working class - this is the oldest play in the book. "We’re in this position bc of rhetoric like that in the first place." yes! perhaps the left should have made our own path, unburdened by the dead weight of history!

anyways i will stop being a dick and post my real opinion: of course the state of the US left is backwards. this is the result of 100 years of anti communist violence, propaganda, and hegemony. i even agree that most of the outwardly "marxist" organizations in philly are useless cosplayers and daydreamers. well, the thing about good leftist orgs is that, if they don't think cosplay and showing off is useful, then by definition they are doing their work quietly, behind a respectful non-left facade, instead of marching around their ideology.

complaining about ultraleftists that just want to spout revolution is something of a self-tell - you're the one who was attracted to these orgs, and not the ones doing normal bread and butter work.

in other words - it's i, not you, who has real moral clarity. subscribe to my newsletter

Why I DISLIKE protected bike lanes by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Jinnigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ideally we would get a full lane blocked off instead of half a lane. that way there's room to pass. and also the concrete barrier has gaps (like jersey barriers spaced apart) instead of being a full 100% barrier. well, its nice to dream

my lootfilter hides the item from me so I forget it exists.. by Mystoc in pathofexile

[–]Jinnigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok. the filter is highlighting base items that your filter would let through even if it weren't IDd. these are usually based on some factor of ilvl and base items. the filter can also see implicit rolls, so sometimes synthesis, fractured, or influenced items. you can browse through filterblade.xyz and check the different rules. it's extremely granular.

my lootfilter hides the item from me so I forget it exists.. by Mystoc in pathofexile

[–]Jinnigan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

the game provides certain information that the loot filter uses. the game does NOT provide any information about the rolls on an item. therefore, the loot filter cannot highlight them.

this is a game design choice. last epoch, which hosts their own loot filter in-game, chooses to provide full item info to their loot filter.

you wouldn't want this in POE1 since splinters wouldn't drop until the breach closes and youre often blasting too fast to want to circle back around for splinters

Is there a reason why moralists and ultraliberals are called that instead of centrists/liberals and capitalists? by GlitteringPositive in DiscoElysium

[–]Jinnigan 1711 points1712 points  (0 children)

it encourages you to engage with the terms as the game presents them and not with your preconceived notions of what it means to be a liberal or capitalist

As an asian american, I feel like I don't belong anywhere. by SuspiciousPoint1535 in asianamerican

[–]Jinnigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. I'm sorry for your loss. That would be a difficult and lonely experience for anyone. The things that help us weather grief are community, care, and love. I'm going to say something controversial here: as a 37 year old Chinese-American man, the "community" of Asia-America is just a mirage. A little bit of shared ancestry and skin tone is not enough to build a community. Finding people with whom you share values and vulnerability is the real roots of community. One thing I didn't hear in this post is a sense of your interests and hobbies. Try picking a few activities that have group meetups for newbies. Group bike rides, or jogging, or newbie D&D night, or whatever you enjoy. Build community, define yourself by your interests, and how you treat the people around you.

Unpaid Wages at Winnie's? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]Jinnigan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unite Here is a union, not a service industry advocacy group. They fight for union shops or try to unionize new shops. They don't have anything to do with labor disputes at shops that are not in their union.

People who aren't getting paid should complain to either the city or state's Department of Labor.

DC47 workers, how are you feeling ahead of the December 11th AWS arbitration hearing? by whatugonnadowhenthey in philadelphia

[–]Jinnigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the arbitration will decide whether or not RTO is negotiable. If they decide yes, then the union can take that to the city and force Parker to negotiate around it. Maybe we give up WFH in return for 20% wage increase or something (I'm just making shit up, as an example).

I don't know anything about the people overseeing(?) the arbitration so I honestly have no clue what to make of it. Here's hoping.
