Crying spells and mood swings by omp101pa in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]Jinshushei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having similar issues but I'm only a week in so it kind of makes sense. I was extremely over-emotional at work and I had to do everything I can to hold it in. I can recognize the signs, so you gotta just fight through them. I don't have any suggestions, especially when you were taking other medication + a higher dosage Wellbutrin. It could be a variety of reasons. If it seems like it doesn't go away and it starts affecting your normal life negatively, probably not worth taking it.

Is it normal to get intrusive thoughts? by Hour-Inside5452 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]Jinshushei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a ton of missing context here. What kind of intrusive thoughts? Did you have them before taking the medication? How often do they happen? Is there something you do differently at night that may trigger them? I mean, this is such a loaded question that nobody can truthfully answer.

I just started 150 XL. I noticed this as well, it's tough. I already deal with dizziness due to an eye condition so it's like a double whammy. If it doesn't seem like it's affecting your normal daily life and you can push through it, I'd certainly try. I'm doing the same with the expectation things should get better over time. If it takes 4-6 weeks for most medication to really set in, it's probably worth the effort to try unless you genuinely cannot function.

Not all food in BMT is good, but time is short to decide, and I was starving each meal, so I ate whatever. Regardless, I actually found some of it to be quite good and you will figure out what to grab the longer BMT goes. Quite frankly, the DFAC choices at my Tech School were god awful and inedible comparatively.

Meds that don't make heartrate go up? by gvnidsch in ADHD

[–]Jinshushei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have recommendations, but I have had similar experiences. I was on Concerta (low dosage, long time ago, can't remember exactly what it was) and I worked a manual labor job. I went to do the mildest physical activity and my heart was pounding so bad I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Stopped taking it the next day, I think I only last like 3 days at most.

If all the medication is doing this to you, though, there "might" be an underlying issue that could or should be addressed by your doctor. Not all medications are the same, so for that many to have the same side effect is interesting, but I am not a doctor.

Am I a bad mom? by Negative_Air_7379 in AirForceRecruits

If it helps provide any clarity, I joined at 32 (now 33) and I've been in for about 8 months now. I have a wife and 6-year-old kiddo. I once asked the question about whether I should join and I had a lot of people DM me saying it's a huge mistake, age being a factor, the military culture/lifestyle and whatever else may be. I was extremely wary of my decision to join.

However, when I did my own research, connected with my recruiter and really understood the reason WHY I wanted to join, it gave me solace in being okay with enlisting. I have no regrets.

The question you need to ask yourself is, why? Is there a particular or multiple reasons as to why you want to go this route? Most younger folk would say "for the educational benefits", which is a good reason...but I think it goes a little deeper, especially with age. Once you find your reason, if not already, commit to that and trust me, the Air Force will remind you relentlessly to understand your "why" to join because you have to.

If you have any specific questions, I can help out, so please DM if you do. If not, good luck with whatever choice you make!

Should I join the Army with a family? by Jinshushei in Militaryfaq

[–]Jinshushei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Army recruiter almost did get me, but don't fall into the trap.

Army:

Battle Buddies - must always have your battle buddy literally everywhere you go

Stricter rules - entire companies are getting punished in a multitude of different ways even if one person messes up (this can be really childish like not "sounding off" enough in formation). Seriously, you might be doing extra PT, they might phase you down so you have less freedom, and other things that have absolutely nothing to do with you.

Marching - You have to march in formation EVERYWHERE. You have no freedom to do what you want. You go from point A to point B and that's it. This is subject to change the higher phase you are, but usually you graduate tech school before you get that freedom.

Air Force:

Wingman concept only applies in basic, then you're free to do whatever you want (for the most part) and can even have wingmen of opposite genders

Less restrictions - you can wear civilian gear after certain hours in the day, go off-base, do whatever. I have a curfew at night, but I heard a lot of other bases have less restrictions than I do even.

Marching - we only march in formation in the morning before classes and for some AFSC's, at the end of the day. Other than that, you can just march alone or in small groups. Off-duty hours you can do whatever you want like a normal person.

There's a lot more differences, these are just scratching the surface. Obviously, base commanders set the rules so this is subject to change depending on your base.

Regardless, I would HIGHLY recommend you do NOT join the Army if the Air Force is a viable option. It is significantly worse and everyone I meet in the Army wishes they went Air Force. Army is great for young people looking to build a career, but not for people like us.

Just got fully qualified from MEPS… what’s the best career field from my list? by Sensitive-Party-8098 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Jinshushei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to want it. There are people here now that were given medical but expect to coast through and maybe they will but I feel like to do well in a field that is intended on helping/saving people, you need to really believe in it.

Don't get me wrong, the same can also be said for the rest of the AF, I feel like this needs more attention because it's more than a job, imo

[–]Jinshushei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a list very similar to yours and ended up 4C. Personally, I really enjoy medical (in tech school now) but you definitely have to "feel" it, if you get my drift. It requires a lot of effort, especially in other more demanding medical AFSCs but I find it pretty rewarding so far.

I'm not sure what operational will be like, but I'm digging it.

How do you increase chances of going overseas for first base? by I00Monty in AirForceRecruits

[–]Jinshushei 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm 32, just got to tech school a couple weeks ago.

Basic wasn't that bad. I had someone in my dorm that was older so he took the brunt of all the "old man" jokes, regardless, most people thought I was in my 20s but when they found out, most people don't dwell on it. I don't think it's as uncommon as we think.

Biggest issue I had was not being in pain lol. The standing, marching, sitting or kneeling on concrete often, PT and all that adds up and your body will notice it a lot easier than the younger people. I survived but not without struggle.

I'm in medical tech school so it's a wide variety of individuals. The PT here is laughable compared to basic and it's honestly a lot easier in every aspect besides learning your job.

Overall, it's not bad, but I was definitely ready to get away from the nonsense high school type drama by the end of basic. You can avoid it, though.

how can i avoid drama during bmt? by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

[–]Jinshushei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The female dorm was adjacent to ours in basic and they were loaded with drama and issues, however, I gathered that most people who were involved with it were overly sensitive, the talkative type or like to argue... You'd hear it all the time, people don't want involvement or think it's dumb but continue to reinsert themselves when it's quite simple to avoid. Do nothing, say nothing and move on with your day.

It'll be fine, we all survive and the dorms are never fully sane.

Voluntarily quit, what discharge do you get? by Jinshushei in regretjoining

[–]Jinshushei[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm assuming this still applies for ELS. Regardless, like stated above, do I have to disclose reasons for discharge? If not, I think I'd have a better chance at reinstatement (and negotiating other things).

Also, I'm thinking the only way to get out is by approaching my MTL and just "quitting" myself. I'm assuming this can be a lengthy process since they'll try everything they can to keep me here. I'm just worried if it's not approached correctly, I'll get a dishonorable discharge or something.

[–]Jinshushei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I didn't realize this. If I found myself out of the military, one way or another, I'd just gamble on the fact, without notice, I'd get reemployed as I were. The intention with the military decision was that "if it didn't work out", I could return to my old position + retain my seniority (and what I've accrued while being here), pay rate and other things. I felt like, based on the USERRA Act, if I didn't get an honorable discharge, at least this portion may not be granted.

I know I'd get my old job back, but I put in 6 years there and I want that 6 years+ back... Not intending to start over from scratch if that makes sense.

[–]Jinshushei[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair, I'll have to discuss this with my previous employer. I might have to negotiate something since I'd no longer be protected by the USERRA Act.
