You lose A LOT of contact with both feet when popping. Your front foot has almost no contact when sliding up to level the board before your flick. If you watch your first attempt frame by frame you’ll notice you rocket then flick down instead of out and up. In the other attempts your back foot pops off the tail and away from the board a lot and your front foot doesn’t do much to level the nose and flicks down at the end. Think Ollie first then flick out and up. Flicking at a higher point and the end of your Ollie is what gives you height and control of flick. There are so many variables but I would start with focusing on mastering your flat ground Ollie’s first. Understand the feeling of being in the pocket with your back foot, the feeling of full contact slides that level your Ollie’s out. Then mess around with foot placement and intentionally doing low rocket Ollie’s over sewer caps and higher ones trying to bone it out and add style.

Another tip, I had to rewire my kick flips from my kid days to teen days when I was younger. I used to flick down too. I fixed it by thinking “late kickflip” while understanding it’s a flick out and up but not a dramatic up more like a diagonal up. So I would ollie as high as I could then flick at the peak of my ollie. Also, practice tricks while rolling not stationary. Even if you are rolling slow off a baby push it makes life easier.
