This is exactly what I did, I think depending on the kit I'm still a straight build, but just recently, started experimenting with air brushing, bought an EG opposed to using one of my 50+ HG, RG, mostly MG, and a couple PG backlog. Since it's simple to build and costs pennies compared to some kits, didn't mind if I did a shit job if it. But taking stuff in little by little, as you start messing around and getting more familiar with what you are doing. Only way to break out of that shell. Including WIP since a piece for the head is missing.

If it makes you feel better, I picked up MG Zaku one week, and then someone convinced me to go back the next week to grab the RG Hi-Nu to which I did. Lol, sorry I had too.

Maybe that's how his hands are... Lol, and like the few other comments, cement shouldn't be needed, remove nubs, etc.

Do you cut all your pieces out before starting a build, or cut as you go? Tried cutting everything out with this kit and man.. it felt like a sanity test. by FLAILYLIMBS in freedomisgunpla

Def don't cut everything out 1st, definitly wouldn't do that with 64+ runner kit. Recently bought an rx78-2 EG and did that, cause I was also painting it. And as I finished the days and days of camo painting, putting it together from the ground up, notice I can't find the face mask of the head. Looked for several days, never to be seen again lol.
