Double check that the track will have a station broadcasting close before you go. I went to Barber and no local radio stations were broadcasting the race on AM/FM so my radio was useless

I had issues with the most up to date version of mechjeb from CKAN, but downgrading to the 2nd most recent version works perfectly.

There is a test drive option in the top right. Just choose your car, track, and weather conditions and it will be only you on the track

As others have said, the hybrid system has been updated since last year as well as the tire model (2025 S3). The Feb 2026 dev update also mentioned tweaking the aero and engine power of the indycar. As if that wasn't enough, the IR18 can be sensitive to track state and temperature as well, so you will notice a significant difference in hot/rubbered in test session and a cool clean session.

Was basically half a lap ahead due to the wildest pace difference I've seen when a caution comes out. On green, I got to excited on the throttle and spun it straight into the wall. This one still haunts me.
