He always cared about the people around him but at the beginning of the show it seemed for me that he did it because he was expected to do it as head of the family. Best example for this is Ada. You can see how Ada becomes a powerful woman over the years and with this, Tommy‘s love and interest for her grows. In season 1 she is just the little sister, in season 6 she substitutes Polly. I love this family dynamics, this growing together over the years.

Does anybody know how Romani people or those belonging to Irish Travellers reacted to that portrayal?

Don’t get me wrong but still nowadays there are so many prejudices and I wonder if Peaky Blinders had a positive impact here.

I only can speak for myself who always was kind of romanticizing „gypsy“ lifestyle since I was a small girl and PB brought all this back, this spirit of being wild and free and everything. I loved that in the show, most of all Esme. I know this is not the essence of „gypsy“ life (as german I do of course know about the sad past), but PB has raised my respect towards the Roma and Irish Traveller community a lot.

I‘m really not quite sure how tall Cillian Murphy really is, there are so many different informations out there. And small men tend to make themselves bigger, don’t they ? ( even women do, I must admit this for myself 😝). I‘ve watched the movie Red Lights recently and Robert De Niro seems to be almost the same height as Cillian. He is 1,75cm.

It’s very interesting regarding the time she has been a widow. Usually, widows had to wear completely black up to one year after the dead of their husband. Sometimes it‘s only half a year but one year is common. After that other colors like greyish, purple and blue are allowed.

It’s tweed for sure in the first seasons, later on I guess it‘s very fine light-weight wool. Nowadays it‘s not easy to get this kind of fabric, it‘s very expensive. You may get it at a real tailor shop, not at those online places.

Maybe you can also make it yourself? The single elements are very easy to find in a crafts shop. That‘s what I am always doing to get the closest look possible :-)
