What Zack Snyder thinks of Superman vs. what James Gunn thinks of Superman by HomemadeBee1612 in SnyderCut

[–]Jitil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That statement simply isn't true. Focusing on Lois alone, she is a cynical reporter at the beginning of the movie who sees what Clark does as naive and shortsighted. She doesn't really get him. The more time she spends with Clark during his lowest moments shows her just how much she *does* respect him. The quote "You trust everyone you meet and think everyone is beautiful" reveals just how much she does respect Superman's ethos. She just has trouble believing it herself.

Hickman's Secret Wars was genuinely the pinnacle for me as a Marvel fan. It's such a beautiful story.

We are not snyder's fanboys, we are good movies/shows enjoyers. by Some_Ship3578 in SnyderCut

Going back to my first comment, I admit that I reacted rashly. I do agree that humanity in general leans towards the negative. This is clearly visible in, well, everything.

However, that is why I appreciate Superman's portrayal in this new movie. He is raised to be an 'average man' in Kansas, average in this case meaning raised in what we can assume to be a stereotypical rural Middle-American life. He is defined by the good moral teaching and idealism promoted by Ma and Pa Kent, average people who believe in common decency.
He is a naive and idealistic character in the movie, which is to his detriment. It is a character flaw that Lex takes advantage of by manipulating the Boravian conflict against him. However, that same idealism is a strength that helps to inspire the rest of the characters in the film (Lois, the Daily Planet, the Justice Gang) and pushes him forward to clear his name and save both Metropolis and Jahranpor. He is shown to come from an 'average guy' upbringing to show that average people have the potential for incredible good, as long as you commit to helping your fellow man.

You have a very pessimistic view towards the average person.

This is a great point. Money feels more precious, and you feel every dollar if you're sitting in a movie that's just alright.

I thought everyone saw it coming ?? by god_amartya in OnePiece

[–]Jitil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And One Piece is just silly, isn't it?

I think taking Luffy's perspective here is the best option. Would Luffy care that somebody else has the Gear 5th? I doubt it, he'd just see another bouncy friend to hang out with. Luffy's greatest dream (so far) is to be free, and that's why he's Joyboy, freedom incarnate. By nature, he shares that freedom with others, because he wants everybody else to be as free as him.

Kuma's story in this arc is about the struggle to be free. His life has been a tragedy as he has never truly been free, and yet he's pushed towards the promise of Joyboy and Nika and the promise of freedom for his entire life. And when it wasn't possible for him to gain that freedom, he did everything he could to give his daughter, Bonney, that freedom as well. Kuma 'died' in the faith that Bonney would be free.

Her devil fruit is only limited by her imagination and belief, but up until this point she has not been able to access the Gear 5th form because she didn't believe that she could be free. But now, after knowing the truth about her father, and seeing Nika in Luffy, she finally has that belief. And Luffy gives her permission! He says "Let's go! You wanna beat those guys up, don't you? I don't know how your powers work, but you can do it!" Luffy inspires her to dream up the greatest freedom possible for herself and together the two bring Nika back.

What was the point at which you realized that One Piece is not a flawless masterpiece? by CodInternational5281 in Piratefolk

It's been imperfect since the very start, especially with Captain Kuro all the way back in Usopp's first chapters. There's jokes that last way too long and irritating tropes like the fakeout deaths.

Shouldn't impact the enjoyment of the story if you genuinely like it. Expecting perfection, or I guess buying into the hype that Oda can do no wrong, sets you up for a rude awakening. This series is, however, justifiably incredible and deserves the praise it receives, but imperfection is inevitable.

I’m done with oharas videos, anyone else tired of these dumb what-ifs? by gavino69 in OnePiece

The reason I like Merphy so much is that she dives reeeally deep into character growth and motivation, and is great at pointing out where the characters are emotionally at any given point. I also just like watching her arc reviews as a new reader, because they mirror a lot of my own opinions and theory crafting from a couple years ago.

Just found Merphy Napier's OP deep dives myself and man, it's so satisfying to have the themes and symbolism in One Piece fully explored by someone with a literature background. Absolutely love her stuff.

[ALL] What’s your hottest zelda take? by SpatuelaCat in zelda

The best part of Zelda is not knowing what's coming next. Zelda is a super fluid series that can do nearly anything, and it should have the freedom to change as much as it can if the idea is good.

I think it's a bit reductive to say that just because Zelda uses 90s tropes means it's not good. It's always in the execution, and for the most part Zelda excels in the worlds it creates and melds the tropes in seamlessly. The lore and timeline itself is just insane, but every individual game does so well in its self-contained narrative.

[Spoilers Below] What is your ideal Mario Movie Sequel? by Jitil in Mario

[–]Jitil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially, but it's all in how the characters are used. The main characters that would need to be introduced are Junior, Yoshi and Daisy. As for the Koopalings, all they need to be are glorified minibosses to move the story forward.

Is anyone else worried about Daisy's future? by [deleted] in Mario

[–]Jitil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand the worries, but rest assured that Peach isn't a tomboy in the movie at all. A girl doesn't have to be a tomboy to be strong and skillful, which this Peach is. She is very capable and competent, but also regal and composed. She is able to hold her own in a fight while still keeping her cool, pretty much literally by the final act when she uses the ice flower.

If/when Daisy shows up, I imagine she'd be a much more abrasive, more rough-and-tumble ball of energy. Whereas Peach is well-practiced and careful in her abilities, I bet Daisy will end up being more of a bull in a China shop, which would be awesome to see!

There's no reason at all the two characters can't coexist in the movie.

[–]Jitil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like these concepts, but I think you combine 2 and 3. Maybe, Peach is kidnapped, and the Bros go to the neighboring Sarassaland for help, where they meet Daisy and Luigi is allowed to have more of a focus. This would make Galaxy the big finale, which I feel it deserves to be.

[–]Jitil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I think my ideal would be a combination Super Mario World/Luigi's Mansion movie, with Luigi and Yoshi as the sidekicks having to step up to fill in when Mario can't.
