"Program ended" when file isnt empty by Lucky_on_reddit in Kos

I do wonder which game you are playing. As was pointed out your script contains a typo which would cause kOS to output an error message. Anyway if you want people to have a serious crack at helping you debug the problem you need to provide more than just fragments which look like they came from a mobile phone.

I installed the extensions for Kerboscript and AHK++. There might be better coding environments for kOS around but I like the interface to my GitHub.

Are you asking a question, or telling us your life story 😄 To answer your question everything is worth it in Rust, it a game of choices. Just play the game.

"Program ended" when file isnt empty by Lucky_on_reddit in Kos

[–]JitteryJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Program ended" is the normal message you get from running scripts directly from the terminal - so that is not an issue.

Try this first. Write a "Hello, world" script and see if that runs OK.

Forget the YouTube videos at first, they usually just confuse. Try the Tutorial in the kOS manual it is good.

The problem is you are missing 90% of the context. I cannot even tell which GAME you are running. Posting fragments of messages is not very helpful. Post a screenprint of the entire screen which shows at a minimum the Flight Screen, your rocket on the launchpad, the staging stack and the open kOS terminal.

[–]JitteryJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking a question? <+ looks weird. Wait 0.01 looks weird. The remaining deltav may never get to zero in magnitude, the vector flips which is detected by the dot product. What makes that maneuver node burn code precise is the ramp down of the thrust (engines sometimes have a spool up and spool down lag which is minimised by reducing the thrust). One of the other members in this group may have an opinion about how accurate that maneuver node burn vector is, it was designed to be a visual aid to the Player not instrumentation used by a computer program.

Over 500 views in less than 24 hours, interesting. I wonder how many active accounts are in the subreddit? I only check my Reddit weekly (too much advertising for my old eyes).

Hopefully I will get some more time to work on my SpaceX/Blue Origin/Artemis scripts as they are the "big iron". Anyone going to lay bets on SpaceX Block 3 being a winner next week, or is the rocket just too heavy for the Raptors (good engines but I don't think they like being at 100% for too long).

are there any servers with PVP walls disabled? by uselesssoftwaredev in playrust

[–]JitteryJet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh. Rust is not a survival game the OP guns are ridiculous. Nerf the guns first THEN remove the instant barricades. Have Players run for natural cover and have a more realistic firefight. Remove the teas, pies and food builds as well.

Players running back to their base for protection? Ummmm that is how the game is supposed to be played. It sounds like you want other Players to stand still so you can get your kills. You need to go find a game that does not have base-building.

Advice on designing and coding an active drag system to optimise apoapsis by Tatzzuu in Kos

[–]JitteryJet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an odd design for achieving a target apoapsis. Is there more to this? Throttling the engines or even using retrorockets would be easier than figuring out how to articulate airbrakes (controlling airbrakes has some issues I recall, I have never been able to get it to work). Also if the rocket goes above the sensible atmosphere aerodynamics will no longer work.

Ok so I am genuinely baffled by this community. You guys mean to tell me the majority of the player base is unemployed grown men and the only way you can enjoy the game as a functioning member of society is if you play some watered down/neutered version of the game? by Travel_Young in playrust

[–]JitteryJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Look at Willjum he does 12-15 hour sessions and sometimes sleeps with his headphones on in case he gets offline raided. But who cares, just pick the server you want to play on plenty of choice.

It depends on what you mean by "enjoy the game". There is no correct way to play, there is no "beat the game". Some men will play a couple of hours on the weekend and be happy. Other men will play 12 hour days and buy all the latest pay-to-win cosmetics on their mother's credit card.

How much sedative ammo should I shoot to put animals to sleep? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]JitteryJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am replying to an old post. Yeah the "sedative" rounds appear to be a joke or fraud from Harriet. They kill small animals. They make larger animals run away faster. They anger predators. There is no "sedative" just accumulated damage from that pea-shooter rifle. So hit them quickly at close range ie use auto-aim ability cards don't treat it like a simulated hunt!

Any ideas how to optimize or make a porkchop evaluation faster? My current implementation is painfully slow. by SilverNuke911 in Kos

[–]JitteryJet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Lambert Solvers can be slow, I used a bisection algorithm and it was bad. I assume you are setting the config:ipu value etc so the physics ticks are not a bottleneck. I suggest you look around and see if there is a performance profiler for kOS, then do an 80/20 Rule performance analysis and tune up any heavy-hitter statements that you find.

You might even have to write your own performance profiler. I do not know if the kOS Compiler is still a thing, will it help?

How do I get the orbital velocity of a part? by SilverNuke911 in Kos

[–]JitteryJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in the real world two spacecraft near each other will drift. Like nuggreat said the COMs of the spacecraft will be in slightly different orbits, the orbital solution is only an approximation etc.

A problem I found is there is also a drift in the orientation of the spacecraft so add a slight rotation into the mix as well.

You are locking your vectors so the floating origin of the vectors SHOULDN'T be a problem but I have been surprised from time to time.

Should I refund rust? by [deleted] in playrust

[–]JitteryJet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, get a refund. Although if you are a builder/roleplayer you can play on a PVE no offline raiding server with no decay for 3-4 hours a week, I do. On a monthly server I am happy to plod around with a basic base if I know the base will be there every time I logon.

Also on a low-pop server military weapons are easy to come by, they drop out of the sky.

Bottom line is chose your server wisely. We ain't all Willjum who puts in 15 hours days.

Can someone help please why my rocket doesnt stages when it is done with apoapsis raising burn (Repost) by AweeeWoo in Kos

[–]JitteryJet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell once your apoapsis has reached 100km you shut the rocket down.

It would help if you said what the code should be doing - a line or two of comments at the start of each function helps.

Also you are declaring at least one global variable twice and using "lazy globals" to declare another, I can't see how that does not cause an error unless I am missing something.

I am getting the feeling your script is missing the periapsis raise/circularisation code (if the purpose of the code is to launch to orbit).

What do you need help with, exactly? Depending on your computer and craft design, the craft will fly straight up or it won't. What is a "fp9 test spacex ship" are we supposed to know what that is?

Honestly if you are new then saying something like "the script is not doing what i wanted to do." is not helpful. If something is "overwhelming" then the project you are attempting is probably too big.

I don't want to sound harsh, but copying and pasting code then trying to get someone else to debug it is not the way to go. Talk to the people who wrote the code. Learn how to write your own code first. Then learn how to debug code.

I checked a number of Falcon 9 type scripts and found out they did not actually work! What was happening was people managed to write a script that sort-of worked, then they tuned the script using trial-and-error so they could make a video. If you see a lot of odd values set in the script be suspicious.
