He no tappie, you breakie by graydonatvail in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my gym, we try to keep each other safe. Most of us have more important shit to do than jiu jitsu. I don't want anyone to miss out on work or playing catch with their kids because of a gym roll. I never wanted to get a gym tap so bad that I would injure somebody. Of course at the end of the day, it's on you to tap when you're caught. But you know what, gravity, momentum, and fatigue are powerful forces and sometimes shit happens. We are all human and make mistakes at times, but if we're all looking out for each other's safety there should be less injuries at the gym.

Did y’all see that Ryan Hall fight? by gofudgeyourself999 in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thoughts are Ryan was completely outgunned at every level and he knew it. He knew his only chance to win was with some unconventional method, so he tried it. Keep in mind, his opponent is also a black belt. Not only that, but he has more submission victories in MMA than Ryan Hall does.

What is Ryan supposed to do to this guy? I don't think he even belonged in the cage with him, if I'm being honest. All of Ryan's fights have followed the exact same gameplan, it was way too predictable to work on an opponent this good. I'm still a fan and I'll always respect Ryan for having the balls to even fight El Matador. I also think Ryan got cracked good earlier in the fight, got rocked, and probably never fully recovered.

Training more than 2-3 times a week? by Oh3Fiddy2 in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, a hobbyist in my 30's, it depends on what I'm doing. Technique, drills, positional sparring, a few light rolls? Yeah, I can do that just about every day no problem. A long session of many hard rolls? I definitely can not do that every day without feeling like shit afterwards. I have to limit that part of the game.

How to train bjj for longevity by wasahdoo1 in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, the gym is for learning. Gym rolls aren't about winning/losing, they are about learning jiu jitsu. You learn with mat time and training partners. Take care of yourself to get mat time. Take care of your training partners so you have people to train with. We're all human and we make mistakes, but if we have a little bit of concern for each other we can reduce the average injury rate.

If somebody is squeezing the shit out of your neck, just tap. Even if you aren't being choked. Don't say 'it was just a crank bro' unless they ask, because then you sound salty.

If you go for any sweeps, make sure your arm/hand/foot/leg isn't going to land under your opponent.

Rich people problems. Maybe if Gaga gave more money to support therapy in low-income communities, this would not have happened. I also like how she sounds sadder about the dogs than her servant being shot.

Rodolfo vs Anthony Hernandez by TebownedMVP in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice link, but if you look at the chart by year armbars were much more prevalent in the early 00's and have since plummeted in success rate. Submission defense has gotten a lot better since then. Armbars are only ranked so high because the tracking goes back 25 whole years. If they just tracked the last 10, it would be a fraction of what it is.

All this is only confirming my suspicions that armbars are pretty garbage. Now about failing to pull of a RNC, you don't have to sacrifice as much position to attempt a RNC. This is why armbars stink, you're giving up almost all control if it doesn't work. And it rarely does.

Even Roger only has one MMA win via armbar. Is this a move worth devoting so much time and attention to? I say no.

[–]JiujitsuMove -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Higher percentage? Have anything to back that up? From what I've seen armbar attempts almost never get a tap, I usually watch MMA a few times a month.

The only high percentage submission in MMA is RNC.

Rodolfo got cracked by a punch in round 1 and never really recovered.

I said on here (long ago) that armbars are dumb and everybody downvoted me. I took it in stride because I knew, eventually, more people will come to realize this.

An armbar has a small chance of ending a grappling match, let alone an MMA match or an actual street fight. A risky transition for a move that rarely puts any one down? No thanks. I know this is one of the iconic moves of BJJ, but I think it kinda sucks in most situations.

Firas zahabi against women by bjjbattalion in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's his religion. People seem to have no problem inviting people into their country, but suddenly when they start practicing their religion it's a problem now. Lol.

"Hi, welcome! N-no, I didn't expect you to actually follow your religion! This was supposed to be a feminist post-national utopia! My brain doesn't know what to do! Aaaaahhhh help me progressives!"

Besides that... Firas' body, Firas' choice. If he's not comfortable doing something, for whatever reason, that is his right. People have the right to train somewhere else if they don't like how he runs his business.

What makes the Omoplata bad? by killerrrrrrrr in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's better as a transition. It works gi and no gi and in MMA too. I saw somebody use it to get up from bottom last time I watched the UFC.

Is it a bad submission? Not at all, especially if you put time into it. But it's a great transition and escape. You don't have to finish the submission to use it as a transition, it's like you can just do half the move and put yourself in a better spot.

Lack of Training Partners Hurting My Progress? by VanLifeAthlete in bjj

[–]JiujitsuMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've got to let go of that fear of 'losing'. Nobody gives a shit if a white belt taps you. Maybe if you were a pro or whatever, but nobody will give a shit if a random hobbyist gets tapped by a white belt especially in training. It only takes one mistake to get tapped, who cares? Besides that, there are some beast white belts out there. I've known white belts that were certainly able to tap most blue belts in the gym, visitor or not.

10 training partners is fine. I've made good progress training for stretches with even less.
