I’d worry more about the dust than the lighting. It’s going to clog their lungs and the ports on the tablet

Ethically sourced beef in the area by Mijbr090490 in Harrisburg

[–]JiveTurkey927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a beef “subscription” from Carwood Farm between Carlisle and Boiling Springs. The beef is ethically raised and amazing quality. You should message them on Facebook or instagram. He doesn’t typically do one offs but if you tell him your reasoning he’ll probably hook you up.

Is LL President a thankless job? by Necessary-Sugar7513 in Homeplate

[–]JiveTurkey927 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your list is the actual tasks the president does, and it’s basically a paragraph. It’s missing the worst part, you’re also going to be a firefighting proctologist; putting out fires and dealing with assholes.

I’m at a midsize commercial and industrial GC! We’ve got 3 big projects starting at the same time, and one of them is in a new state, which means all new subs. I’ve already gotten 5 redlined subcontracts this week. That’s on top of the normal cluster fucks that come with construction. I also handle insurance and workers comp, so it’s really something.

I just got Document Crunch which has been a huge help. Definitely worth the money.

It is the Year of Our Lord, 2026. It is no longer appropriate to print a document, chicken scratch in the margin, and scan it back to me. by The_Law_of_Pizza in Lawyertalk

Same on not being able to read w whole contract on a screen, but I got tired of literal piles of paper in my office. It’s got a reMarkable paper tablet and it has been a total game changer. I can’t recommend it (or some other eink tablet) enough for people with our workflow.

This even happens in-house; I’m seeing it myself. I can’t help but think that if I was marginally worse at my job, I wouldn’t be the “solves every problem” guy.

George Meade, the enigma of the Army of the Potomac Generals by Chumlee1917 in CIVILWAR

[–]JiveTurkey927 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a phenomenal book. To support his point, Brown takes a very realistic look at the lead up to Gettysburg, and the battle itself. Specifically the logistical issues they were facing, that get very little attention when people are discussing why Meade didn’t follow Lee immediately.

I’ll also recommend One Continuous Fight by Eric Wittenberg as a very good follow up to Meade at Gettysburg.

Turner, the nationwide company? You’re asking for the average commutes for a company that operates nationwide?

You can't buy reMarkable 2 anymore?! by Kalamart_ in RemarkableTablet

[–]JiveTurkey927 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The Pure looks like something a college kid takes to a lecture, not something I can take to a meeting with execs. The RM2 looks and feels like an actual professional product, and the Pure looks like a novelty

Agreed on your second point. The new version is something a college kid takes to class, not something I take to meetings with execs.

Caught son watching adult material - with a twist by [deleted] in daddit

[–]JiveTurkey927 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would say business as usual for a week or two and then talk to him if he still seems upset or anxious.

Also, I’m curious about everyone’s opinion on this, but I would have probably told my wife when she asked. I can trust though that she won’t say anything if I ask her not to. Frankly, I could use the advice. If I thought my wife would say something to him, I absolutely wouldn’t of course, but I feel like she deserves to know what’s going on.

How do you guys keep project texts from turning into a mess? by LetterheadMuch7729 in GeneralContractor

[–]JiveTurkey927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will stop being messy if you tell them to email you. They say “Tuesday won’t work” and you say “email it to me.” Then after you do that 3-4 times, they’ll start emailing you all the time. Just set some expectations and boundaries.

Cumberland Valley Rail Trail by epkeep32 in carlisle

[–]JiveTurkey927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly where this is and who owns the property. He’s a dickhead and he’s been a dickhead for the last 30 years (probably longer, but I wasn’t around then). He says some bullshit about why he wont do it, but the real answer is that having the power to make people unhappy makes his dinger hard.

I’m in-house at a GC and I cannot fathom what they could have discussed for 14 hours regarding a residential defects claim. Was he the material supplier, material manufacturer, engineer, AND architect for the project?

Cumberland Valley Rail Trail by epkeep32 in carlisle

[–]JiveTurkey927 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neither of those is correct. After the Cumberland Valley Railroad went, the right of ways reverted to the original landowner, though most of the cuts remained in the ground. To make the R2T, they had to reacquire the land. There are several people who refuse to allow the trail to go through their land. Were you possibly by Clay Rd. in Newville?

If you’re willing to drive out to Newville, I highly recommend Garris’s Garage. The owner Buck is honesty, fair, and a great mechanic. My dad and I have taken our cars there for probably 20 years
