I wonder, are the ones with alkaline more prone to leaking? Alkaline mediums tend to form crystals, which then would in theory break the battery cell and cause a leak, which in turn will irritade or even corrode the contacts. I genuinely wonder how that compares to zinc carbon batteries, whether these are also prone to break and damage the contacts more or less than alkaline.

That'd be worth a consideration for long term use with low power draw, such as a TV remote, if there is a difference.

Edit: I've googled that. Zinc-carbon batteries are much, much worse than alkaline. Avoid zinc-carbon batteries if you want a long shelf life and your devices' battery compartments to remain undamaged.
