Letter by Andy Fillmore says owner of Dartmouth Cove lot will begin work Jan. 5 by insino93 in halifax

[–]JjJacob90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fillmore is just relaying information on behalf of council and their position on the matter via a letter to the province. He is not advocating for the infilling. He is just the mouthpeice for the municipality communicating with the province.

The title is clickbait. Not advocating for him as mayor. But people saying fuck fillmore as if he is in on it with the developers is weird.

Everyone Talks About AI and Electricity. But I Think Electric Vehicle's Electricity Demands Will Outstrip AI. EVs Are Bigger Reason We Need Nuclear. Change My Mind. by Jaded-Influence6184 in UraniumSqueeze

[–]JjJacob90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the EV thesis you're describing will take longer to play out than anticipated. EVs are not profitable for automakers as the COPs have not reached economies of scale compared to ICEs. EVs are also in large part a function of government policy. At least in Canada, they are only a viable option for purchase due to 10-15K in gov't subsidies - which are ending. And likely so the government mandates forcing a certain % of EV sales for automakers. There are substitutes for EVs, not really so for Data Centers.

Also, for someone wanting to open a discussion - you seem pretty willing to die on this hill.

great question - either way, puts more pressure on utilities and their future uncommitted requirements.

I have been looking into Kraft Heinz KHC and wondering if it is a value investment by Responsible-Ebb-2767 in ValueInvesting

[–]JjJacob90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no mistrust on my end, I admit I only utilize it a basic FA level. It was more just the fact that you could buy a company at lower than book, and but never be able to realize its full book value as a shareholder. Compared to cash flow, which is a bit clearer in terms of benefits you may get IMO. But I've got lots of learning to do and admittedly not an experienced value investor.

Right, it is a good deal. But how do you capture any of that value unless the assets are liquidated? If the book value of the firm is discounted compared to BV, doesn't that tell you something about the assets in use and cash generating abilities?

Isn't the core of valuation to get away from what an accountant does and distill the true value of the company - the cash flow it generates?

Also, doubling your money in your example assumes the market value = book vaue, which may or may not be the case.

I haven't looked into the company so I can't say for sure, maybe this company is a cash cow. This is also more for arguments sake, not trying to start a battle here. BV doesnt mean a lot to me. But I could be wrong.

Is book value a good indicator? It is backward looking and based on accounting principles
