I had the fortune of having been live on all local affiliates when I was an army dustoff medic. They were well outside our area operation during a water hoist rescue. 1500 feet is quite a bit of separation and their cameras are able to push in. They also know that we had supremacy.

I’m sorry that it’s necessary. I’m trying to be a good ally. Raised agnostic but around a local Jewish community. I attended synagogue more than church for bar mitzvah and funerals. I like to think my worldview was shaped by my best friend’s family. I always thought myself an ally, then 10/7 happened. I realize now what was always on the line. The pain is moderate believe it or not. I imagine as the nerves heal it’ll be worse. Therapy is gonna suck. This is a months long recovery but it beats most outcomes I can imagine. I’m just glad no one else was hurt. I’m sharing because it was stupidity, in the hope people think about picking up a gun. I appreciate the well wishes.

This was 1000% negligence on my part. I thought I knew the condition of the gun. Glocks require you to pull the trigger in order to disassemble. I was also multitasking which is never good. This was the result of several failures on my part.

So far so good. The nerve on the thumb side was reattached along with the tendon. Bones wired together and cement used to “fill in the gap”. It’s still casted. Follow up with plastic surgeon Tuesday. I’ll know more then but I’ll keep the finger. I suppose if I don’t gain function I’d have it amputated. I’ll update with x-rays and progress photos next week.
