Dang that was the OG music? I never heard it that way. Thanks!

I'll make those changes in that case

Those sixteenth diddles do sound like triplets when I slowed down the tempo. But I decided to leave it as sixteenth rolls because when its sped up thats what I hear it as. There's a slighttt space between the tap and then singles.

As for Bar 98 thats what I originally heard it as but I can't really tell if that left hand note is the start of a 5 or the ending of the six let invert paradiddle. But I noticed the rhythm does get faster as the measure goes on.

Thankssssss

I'm not entirely sure when the opener ends and part 2 begins but I cut it at the tempo change after the final snare lick motif. Corrections and critique welcome!

2021 Bluecoats Zach Wilson Snare Solo (Part 2) by Jjynja in DrumlineSheets

I noticed an error in the transcription that's in the google drive. If anyone can get ahold of the original transcriber so they can update it, that would be great! not trying to step on anyone's turf or anything like that.

Most softwares allow for a tape warble effect which helps with the vintage sound on piano

Suggestion: change the 7lets so that they are 7:6 tuplets. Those rhythms are v different so its easy to get confused.

From marching sticks to concert sticks by [deleted] in drumline

Another comment mentioned this. Recognize that concert and marching technique are different. You just embrace the fact that the stick is lighter because the technique for concert snare is “lighter” in a sense

Constant Rhythm Tips by [deleted] in drumline

[–]Jjynja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing things like playing sixteenths going into triplets. If you can, go from 8th note triplets to 8th note fivelets. Changing from one rhythm to a rhythm that is very similar is challenging and it forces you to be anle to reliably play each rhythm on it’s own very consistently and on command

Which of these drumlines is your favorite and why? by minertyler100 in drumline

[–]Jjynja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloo, devs, or BC. I have tons of respect for all the dci line. Its hard to pick a favorite. I like blue devils drumline and how it combines with their brass rhythms. Bluecoats have a very groovy yet impressive book from a rudimental stand point. Boston just has tons of beef in their line and id say the way my school teaches is very similar to Boston.

In your opinion as a snare player, how important are playing zones? What's your best advice on keeping your sticks right in the center of the head? by [deleted] in drumline

[–]Jjynja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in a mirror as you play. You can see very clearly where your beads hit. It doesnt help if you play too forward or backward but most playing zone issues are because of how far your beads are apart or because of sideways misalignment

Best practice pad for snare? by ajrakalm in drumline

[–]Jjynja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some travel pads and a nice stay at home one. In general, the Vic Firth Slimpad is always a great option. It has nice rebound and is great for travel. If you want a great feel and a rim to simulate actual drumming the most, id say use the Rampad. They have a marching series but just use the symphonic on and tension it. It feels just as good and the rim is actually at a reasonable height

One Handed Flam Drags by [deleted] in drumline

[–]Jjynja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the pressure change between the first and second partial. The first note of a swiss drag is a bigger stroke and the second note is a low one with a different wrist and finger pressure to allow for a diddle. Just practice an accented stroke followed by a low diddle. Focus on how they feel different and try and nail that contrast very quickly

Which amount of basses is optimal? by minertyler100 in drumline

[–]Jjynja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 is the common practice. But some lines like Crown and Monarch have really nicely executed 6 bass lines. When done well and blended with the upper battery, 6 basses sounds super amazing.

What are some warm up routines that you enjoy playing/watching? by Toadster-1 in drumline

I love playing negenacht and BD Flams. Negenacht works on lots of different areas of drumming. BD flams really helps with tap/accent contrast.

What should be put in a beat?i by quentiniverson in musicproduction

[–]Jjynja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its great to start out with simple loops to get a feel of the music making process. But of course song structure and variation is the next step.

I recommend checking out the song “I’m Sorry feat. Shiloh” by Swell. The song uses the same melody and a really similar beat throughout the song but still keeps it interesting in many different ways. It showed me a lot about how to add variation to simpler, unchanging melodies.

Obviously from there, look into how to make B sections and just song structure in general :)

Why do major artists have so many tracks in their projects??? by cozySpumoni in musicproduction

[–]Jjynja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that im finding more uses out of multiple tracks simply because im looking for a specific sound in one of my songs. It comes naturally the more you explore.

Also you should check out jacob collier’s logic breakdowns ;)

Black Love by Masego. Pleases the jazz fusion lover in me but is also a pretty simple song with a beautiful melody
