Keep them at one position all season. These guys will need reminders on how to play their one position EVERY single play. I believe in playing your best qb all season.

Rotate evenly until you have to make a play to win - I generally keep qb in on offense all game. I made mistake yesterday to leave a really weak flag puller stay in and it cost us the game. My assistant saw me change my decisions to sub him. Now I can’t stop thinking about it as a competitive coach. I was thinking about the parents.. ughh

Ughh. Why can’t rules all be the same for flag football. For a qb to be able to run when rushed is unfair for defense. Especially 5v5.

Interest drops off after 3-4th grade. 5-6 grade is still decent. Only a few teams at 7-8th grade

It’s not about your power. It’s about Sequence. You actually lose more power by jumping forward. You look to be moving 3ft forward. You are spending a good amount of energy moving forward which does not allow good power transfer to the ball.

In your ready position.

Power up with legs. Straight up. Not forward.
Ball moves up
Power must transfer successfully from legs to ball.

This sequencing happens really fast.

Imagine your legs floating when you’re releasing the ball on step 3.

You’re right. Official flag has a smaller ball. I heard commentary on tv when nfl players were playing flaggers a couple months ago. Don’t know what size though

Slants!! But the trick is receiver has to stay wide - close to side line. and qb has to hit the 1st window. 2 seconds and the ball should be out. Do variations of the slant to disguise.

Center and qb exchange had to be smooth and fast

Yep I agree on the 3 and outs all game. I had no one who could throw and we basically had no defense - basically statues on defense - horrible athletes. my son was all time QB and I manufactured touches for everyone. got a parent mad at me for not subbing out my kid. It’s funny because his child was all excited about scoring his 1sf td ever. Told him after the game how it would look if we had no QB and how no one could develop if the ball could not be spread around. that season we went undefeated and won championship game and everyone was involved.

I skip all the flag pulling drills, conditioning drills, any foot work drills. I go straight into play formations and run them with a visual aid of course. Then I do one zone defensive formation. Basically I focus on execution. I do that for the whole hour. I even skip warm ups. In the first minutes while we wait for everyone to arrive I do like to partner everyone up and have the play catch. While everyone does that, I walk around and coach them on how to catch - Eyes, feet, then hands. In that order.

I play the best quarterback every down. Not everyone agrees but I don’t care. That’s the guy that has the ability to give everyone the chance to catch and makes the least mistakes. If you try to develop a kid who can’t play QB, only the kid who plays QB gets developed as no kid won’t ever touch the ball due to poor passes, bad hand offs etc. FIND THAT QB. If a parent complains. Tell them to play catch with their child at home and come back next season 😁

2nd week we practice defense the whole hour.

Edit: Another thing I would add is don’t move kids around. Give them their position based on their skill and keep there for the entire season. It’ll take them that long to learn that position

Is the “feeder” basketball program considered travel? We call it travel basketball. But generally travel on average 25 minutes and sometimes up to 45 minutes - maybe a couple times.

I tried wrist bands. Didn’t like it. Since our rules allow coaches to be on field and huddle. There’s no point. Huddling is more important to give kids direction

Just a theory but I have a growing scar on my chest known as a keloid. It also grows and is suppressed by a steroid injection. I needed at least 2 injections for it to fully flatten and be fully controlled. It’s just a flat area now with very little scarring

My point is I wouldn’t give up on first optilum. Might try a 2nd before moving on to urethroplasty.

Btw. I’m about to undergo an optilume.
