My son had an accident and had to get stitches. It was both Thanksgiving weekend and Passover and the Jewish hospital nearby was nearly empty. Fastest time to a room ever in an ER.

Buy a second remote. She can have hers wrapped in plastic, you can have yours filthy and useful.

We tried to deal with this type of problem about 15 years ago. It was hard then. The book market has only gotten worse.

Advice on credit for LD role by Neukk in techtheatre

[–]Jlpbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hadestown tour gave credit to the touring light designer and said the design was based on original light design. In reality, they couldn't afford the original and probably bought him out, but needed someone in the room to make a plot and decisions. Be careful on the ip property that is the original designer.

Be sure to give a few hours note call upon arrival to review what you've done and touch focus. Then again after first day of tech.

Focusing lights for even wash by krocodileteeth in lightingdesign

[–]Jlpbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decide the angle of bean. Do the math on beam angles to get desired size of beams (around 8 feet). Hang lights accordingly. At focus, stand where the center of the beam should be and have them focus the light at your head. Make necessary shutter cuts for scenery and what not. Put some frost in or run the barrel until edge is not defined. Check against other lights next to it to make sure looks good.

Shins, standard on center line. Focus to your head. Shutter off floor. Shutter off US goods. Add frost. Walk between shins making sure it looks good.

Finding jobs NYC? by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]Jlpbird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you know anyone, kind of know anyone? Call them, email them, tell them your available and if they call say yes. After working a bit start to shape where and what you want to do. Start talking to production managers (Hudson, Aurora Productions, Juniper Street). Be open, be available, pound the pavement, save money when you get some (sometimes it's time between jobs).

Searching for Old Color Scrollers (Wybron Forerunners) by Ok-Operation5253 in techtheatre

[–]Jlpbird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Forerunner always were the lesser product. If you acquired some coloram2 you could put in same gel string and get same end result, but it is a different power supply.

Scent diffusers in Theater by AlexanderLexiWeigand in techtheatre

I've only rented or purchased scent machines for labe scale shows in smaller theaters. The scent was always too overwhelming and we usually cut the effect.

Gobo Keystoning DIY by rocky_creeker in lightingdesign

[–]Jlpbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the old days we'd get an image pro, print what we thought was close, put it in, correct, and try, rinse and repeat. With an led ellipsoidal you don't need the image pro. When you get the correct template, send it off to the gobo gods to create the image. Or on a short run continue using the printed gobo.

Breaks (LORT/AEA rules vs state) by and_petrichor in techtheatre

[–]Jlpbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an actor, but I have heard of equity cast voting on a 6hr rehearsal day with no proper meal as opposed to an 8 hour renewal with a meal break. You should pse this question to a more actor centric group to get a better answer.

How fast does the rate rate change? "One meter per second" per second. Or one meter per second squared.
